Written by David Robert Mitchell’s sci-fi thriller, The End of Oak Street, is now in theaters. Anne Hathaway plays Denise Platt, a mother quietly rethinking her marriage, with Ewan McGregor as her husband Greg, and Maisy Stella and Christian Convery as their kids. Then their entire 1982 neighborhood is dropped into the age of dinosaurs.
The film’s music comes from Michael Giacchino, the Oscar-winning composer behind Up, Ratatouille, and The Incredibles. He also scored Lost, the Jurassic World films, and, just weeks ago, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. His partnership with producer J.J. Abrams stretches all the way back to Alias.
The reception has been strong. FandomWire’s Cole Groth scored the film an 8 out of 10, calling it “a delightfully simple and visually magnificent summer blockbuster” in our review of The End of Oak Street. He also singled out Giacchino’s work as one of the film’s finest elements.
The End of Oak Street Original Soundtrack Album Details
WaterTower Music put out The End of Oak Street (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) digitally on August 7, a full week before the film reached theaters. The album gathers 27 of Michael Giacchino’s original scores for the movie. A physical edition is on the way too, with Made By Mutant Records releasing a 2xLP colored vinyl set, featuring Nicholas Moegly’s original artwork.
Giacchino has been clear about why the job appealed to him. He called the film “an incredible experience” and shared that he was a fan of David Robert Mitchell since his breakthrough movie It Follows (via Business Wire).
Producer J.J. Abrams praised Giacchino’s work, calling him a “storyteller” and adding, “He identifies, like any great composer does, a heartbeat of a scene and he will excavate or emphasize something and suddenly everything gets elevated.” Here’s the complete original soundtrack of the movie.
