Zack Snyder’s Snyderverse was one of the best reboots of the DC franchise fans have seen over the years, however, due to the poor reception of some DCEU/Snyderverse movies the universe was planned to go through a soft reboot. In 2022, Warner Bros. Discovery hired James Gunn and Peter Safran to become co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studios. By the end of 2022, Gunn confirmed that he is working on a new Superman movie.

With Snyder out, Gunn has been laser-focused on setting up the new DC Universe. Many fans believe that it was the rivalry between Gunn and Snyder that ended Snyder’s time with DC Studios, however, that is not the case as Snyder is open to creating another DC movie with James Gunn.

In the interview for his cover story for The Hollywood Reporter, director Zack Snyder recently revealed that he would love to do The Dark Knight Returns, but only as “a true representation of the graphic novel.” Snyder’s words indicate that if James Gunn calls him up, fans will certainly get his version of Batman in the new DC Universe.
As for Marvel, the director said he would love to create a Daredevil and Elektra movie. He added that he is not interested in directing a Star Wars movie, explaining that “those guys have a handle on the brand.” Snyder gave the fans a new Superman with 2013’s Man of Steel, setting up his Snyderverse.

In the interview, Snyder also revealed that he called James Gunn to wish him the best for the new DC Universe,
“I called him and said I wish all the best for him,” adding, “I told him I wanted it to work.”
Snyder and Gunn have collaborated in the past as Snyder directed 2004’s Dawn of the Dead while Gunn wrote the screenplay. The film was quite successful, grossing $102 million worldwide against a budget of $26 million. Over the years, fans have concluded that there is bad blood between Snyder and Gunn after the soft reboot of the DCEU, however, judging by Snyder’s words, it seems like they’re on good terms.
