Fans are probably asking now: Will there be another Scream movie after the seventh installment just landed in theaters? The newest entry in the movie franchise marks the 30th anniversary of the original film’s 1996 release, one of the biggest game-changers in the horror industry.
After several delays and countless controversies, we’re back again with a brand-new story. However, after a recent statement from the director piqued fans’ interest in the possibility of a brewing sequel, it seems like we might be getting one soon.
Will There Be A Scream 8?

Don’t get your hopes up too high—Scream 8 is not yet confirmed, but there is a plan, and the team is enthusiastic enough to return. Director and co-writer Kevin Williamson previously told Deadline in February 2026:
When you’re sitting on the set at 3 in the morning, you’re like, ‘Well, what would Scream 8 be about?’ And you just start spit-balling. And Neve had this great idea, and everyone seemed to run with it.
He says that if the latest entry in the franchise performs well at the box office and there is enough demand for more Scream films, then they are more than willing to deliver again.
So far, it has earned over $28 million worldwide on a $45 million budget. The numbers will hopefully increase in the next few weeks.
What Will Scream 8 Be About After Scream 7 Events?

The plot for Scream 8 would be hard to guess at this point, given that we’re still enjoying the seventh installment in cinemas. However, it will most likely be less gruesome than the previous ones, as Neve Campbell told Evolution Of Horror that they will be aiming for a more grounded approach next time.
Of course, the storyline will presumably revolve around Sidney Prescott-Evans, but we can expect more twists and turns following the shocking events in Scream 7.
Which Actors Will Return for Scream 8?
The answer here will heavily rely on who survives in the latest film. It’s likely that the main stars will return in the sequel, such as Campbell and Isabel May. Returning cast member Courteney Cox might also reprise her role if the movie ever happens.
