The Boys recently concluded its run with the Season 5 finale, delivering the highly anticipated battle between Butcher and Homelander. The fight that’s been brewing for years saw a satisfying end when Butcher got revenge as he smashed Homelander’s head in. While there are spin-offs in development, Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys is officially done.
With spin-offs like The Boys: Diabolical and Gen V canceled, the franchise is expanding into different territory, quite literally. The Boys: Mexico and Vought Rising are two shows that will explore the universe with different themes and storylines that interconnect to the main story established with The Boys. However, with many loose ends in The Boys finale, fans are left questioning the future of The Boys.

Why There’s No The Boys Season 6
Amazon wanted The Boys to run for more than five seasons, but showrunner Eric Kripke was adamant that the story of Homelander could not go beyond the levels he had reached in Season 5 of the show. Speaking to SFX Magazine, Kripke said:
I kept saying to Amazon, ‘This is going to be five.’ They let me finish season four, and it ends with the world exploding, right? There’s really nowhere else to go except the finale.
Narratively, this checks out as Homelander ascended to the immortal being he’s always wanted to be. The supe is on top of the world, so if there were a Season 6, the story would have to be reworked to bring Homelander back to normal powers. This will further extend the battle between Butcher and him for the sake of creating more seasons.
Arguably, Butcher and Homelander have already fought before, and Butcher had the opportunity to take him out. The finale ended with this fated, dead-or-alive match where Butcher came out on top.
Unfortunately, Gen V characters were sidelined despite a lot of hype being generated for their integration into The Boys. Eric Kripke told Polygon that there is still scope for the Gen V supes to have their story told, given that the show was cancelled:
I think there is more story among the Gen V kids. It won’t necessarily be in Gen V, but hopefully we can get some more Vought series going so that we can continue their story.
The Boys: Diabolical is another interesting spin-off that only got one season. The show is an animated anthology that explores the concepts established in The Boys. The show is non-canon except for Season 1, Episode 8. Just like Gen V, we will not be seeing another season as Prime Video is shifting priorities.
Right now, the focus and the hype are being built around Vought Rising: a show that is set in the 1950s, exploring the early days of Vought in a murder-mystery setting. When can we expect the show to release, and what is the show about?
Vought Rising: Release Timeline and Details
Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy in Vought Rising | Amazon Prime Video
Vought Rising will see Jensen Ackles reprise the fan-favourite role of Soldier Boy in this prequel. Unfortunately, his fate in The Boys threw him back into cryosleep in an extremely anticlimactic manner. Fans will get to see the man in full action once again, along with his lover, Stormfront.
Stormfront (Aya Cash) will be introduced as Clara Vought before she came to be known by her superhero moniker. Given her Nazi origins, we are likely going to see an even more messed-up show compared to The Boys. After all, it’s set in an earlier time period where Soldier Boy will be loose with his morals.
You can expect the show to release sometime in 2027 on Amazon Prime Video. Eric Kripke told Collider that the timeline to finish the show will extend all the way to November or December at the earliest.
The main cast of Vought Rising will see Mason Dye as Bombsight, Elizabeth Posey as Private Angel, and Will Hochman as Torpedo, while Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy takes the lead. Kripke has also mentioned that more characters from the original show, along with Gen V, will appear.
With the show set a bit after World War II, we’ll see how Vought got its roots in America while creating the first supes. All this will be wrapped up in a murder mystery package, with Kripke excitedly telling fans at the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con that the show will be drenched in Compound V and blood.
Another interesting concept has been announced as a spin-off of The Boys that will enter international territory.
The Boys Will Head to Mexico For Another Spin-Off
Diego Luna in Andor | Disney+
The Boys: Mexico is another spin-off project that will take place in Mexico. The creator of the show is Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer(Blue Beetle), and it will be produced by Amazon. There is currently no official release date for the show as it is still in its scripting stage.
Andor actor Diego Luna and Werewolf by Night’s Gael García Bernal will star in the series, which will also handle executive producer duties. Eric Kripke told Colldier about the show :
It’s our world but a totally different tone, and it’s super fun.
The story is set in the same universe as The Boys and takes place after the events of the final season. There is potential to explore a whole new side to Vought’s reach in the world, with more corrupt supes doing depraved acts. Gen V revealed that Thomas Godolkin once worked in Vought’s Mexico City, further proving just how many areas Vought has had their Compound V hands in.
Another interesting point to note is that the show will be in Spanish, pushing Amazon Prime Video and The Boys franchise to a new market in superhero storytelling.
Here is a summary of the spin-offs.
