The Toxic Avenger was released on August 29, 2025, and during an interview with Polygon about the film, the director Macon Blair revealed that he axed some of his favourite scenes from the movie.
In that a Zoom call with Polygon, Blair said,
“There are a few shots that have been adjusted, and a few things that have been added, but I would say 98% the same thing. There are a few extra details added in certain shots, just to make them a little more fun, but no new scenes or new cuts.”
The main reason behind it was to make it snappy and a crowd-pleaser. The scenes that were scrapped had been some of Blair’s liked due to the overall acting and performance. Notably, they were removed before the premiere itself, which took place as the opening film of Fantastic Fest on September 21, 2023.

Talking about his most favourite scene he removed, he said,
“Toxie gets knocked on the head, and the screen goes black, and he kind of goes back in time for a minute, and has a scene where he is interacting with his wife when she was alive.”
Blair said that it was a weird left turn (talking about the scene), and then the fight picks up again. He further said that Peter Dinklage and an actress named Rebecca O’Mara (the wife) did an outstanding job with that scene.
Unfortunately, Blair had to cut it because it implied that the audience might come to ask if the fight is really over or not. Therefore, for a gore-soaked, toxic goodness, the small adjustments gave the film a sharper comedic edge while adhering to the film’s original spirit.
