Billie Eilish‘s Grammy speech (via GRAMMYS/YT) has ruffled some serious feathers, including Kevin O’Leary, who was quick to criticize the pop star. His remarks, however, have garnered heat, most notably from Marvel star Mark Ruffalo, who blasted the Shark Tank investor on Threads.
Ruffalo called out O’Leary’s hypocrisy, pointing out that he freely shares his own viewpoints and expects audiences to listen, while dismissing an artist whose remarks resonate with millions around the globe.
Kevin O’Leary why don’t you STFU. It’s hilarious. You will go on any show and talk shit about any number of things and smugly expect us to listen to you, but you will dig into a real artist that dwarfs anything you dream of doing for actually saying something that resonates with 100’s of millions of people the world over. It’s astounding the fantasy double standard Kevin O’Leary lives in. You played yourself well in Marty Supreme.
Ruffalo concluded his rant while drawing parallels between O’Leary and his Marty Supreme counterpart, essentially suggesting he played himself in the movie.
Kevin O’Leary and Billie Eilish Controversy Explained
While accepting her win for Song of the Year, Eilish voiced support for immigration rights by adding, “No one is illegal on stolen land”, ending her speech with a powerful, “F-ck ICE”. Although her comments have been lauded as brave for speaking out in these volatile times, given the current political divide, not everyone welcomed them.

As discussed, O’Leary was one of the prominent figures to criticize Eilish, expressing (via Fox News) that celebrities should avoid political remarks and just entertain.
Billie Eilish’s agents are going out of their minds. The first lesson for celebrities, whether you are a music star or film star, is shut your mouth and just entertain.
Whatever your stance might be on the subject, it’s safe to say Ruffalo wasn’t wrong about the similarities between O’Leary and his Marty Supreme role.

Mark Ruffalo Isn’t Wrong About Kevin O’Leary’s Marty Supreme Casting
Kevin O’Leary’s casting in the new anxiety-induced outing from the genius Josh Safdie was arguably one of its most surprising elements. Considering the Shark Tank investor doesn’t exactly boast a history in acting, his casting in one of the most revered movies of last year seems all the more surprising, at least on the surface.

But on application, this worked in the movie’s favor, as Safdie wanted “a real a–hole”, and Mr Wonderful reasonably fit the bill. Elaborating on it, the auteur later expressed that he wanted an actor whom the audiences didn’t “like in a deep, unconscious way“. O’Leary also didn’t mind this reasoning, but clarified he isn’t an a–hole in the traditional sense (via Vanity Fair):
I say this a–hole thing’s starting to work for me. I am not an a–hole. I just tell the truth, and some people don’t like it. I think maybe I’m going to become the honorary chairman of all assholes everywhere after this. And it’s a job I’m happy to take.
On that note, the Avengers star was right on the money with his correlation about O’Leary technically playing himself in Marty Supreme.
