Well, Helldivers, the Cyborgs have made their way into Helldivers 2 with what’s arguably one of the game’s biggest updates. Player numbers are climbing to new highs, and the buzz around the same is similar to when it first launched. With this, many in the community wonder what’s coming next for the game.
Is there a sequel in the works, or will we get more updates? Well, you can rest easy, defenders of Super Earth. Game Director Mikael Eriksson has confirmed 10+ years of support for Helldivers 2.

Recently, IGN had the chance to sit down with Eriksson to talk about Helldivers 2 after the Oppression Machine update. While chatting, he was asked: Now that Helldivers 2 is 2 years old, does Arrowhead have a better understanding of the game, community expectations, and whether the game is in a better place than before?
Eriksson stated that when Hellidvers 2 launched, Arrowhead wasn’t fully prepared to run a live-service game of this scale with such a massive audience. The studio had its fair share of ups and downs, but has now found its footing and has long-term plans for the game’s future.
We’ve come to a point now after many ups and downs where we’re starting to really find our identity as a live-service studio that is in it for the long haul. We can have this conversation again when Helldivers 2 is 10-years-old! We can talk about it then! But that’s where we’re going. We’re in it for the long run.
Sure, there are still some issues here and there, but Arrowhead plans to deal with them one at a time. Eriksson is hopeful about the game’s future and believes that 2026 will be the most predictable, with consistent, smooth updates.
Clearly, Arrowhead has no plans of walking away from Helldivers 2. Errikson’s statement aligns with CEO Shams Jorjani’s, who previously said that Arrowhead has no plans to make Helldivers 3 and wants to continue supporting the game as long as possible.
Arrowhead is Also Planning to Make More Tech Improvements to Helldivers 2

One of the major concerns within the Helldivers community has been the rise of glitches and game-breaking bugs. These issues are blamed on the Autodesk Stingray engine used by Helldivers 2, which isn’t even supported by its original developers.
Arrowhead’s push to bring new physics systems, damage calculations, and character interactions to an engine that wasn’t built for that level of ambition has led to performance taking a hit for players.
So, is Arrowhead planning to address this? In the same interview, Eriksson was asked if Helldivers 2 would need a major tech overhaul to implement more game-changing features and mechanics.
The developer didn’t mention any specific tech overhaul, but he did reveal that the studio has been heavily investing in technical improvements over the last year. These updates will take time to show up.
For instance, Arrowhead reduced the game’s PC size by nearly 100 GB. According to Eriksson, more is on the way, so Arrowhead can drop even bigger updates in the future.
