Netflix’s mystery thriller Untamed will be returning with a second season, as the streamer recently announced. Starring Eric Bana in the lead as National Park Service special agent Kyle Turner, the drama became one of the streamer’s breakout hits after its Season 1 debut on July 17, 2025.
Originally billed as a limited series, the show quickly earned strong viewership and critical buzz, prompting Netflix to renew it for a second season. Here’s a detailed look at what fans can expect from Untamed Season 2.
Where Will Untamed Season 2 Be Filmed?
While the first season of Untamed was set at Yosemite National Park, the second season will take Eric Bana’s Kyle Turner to a new location. Reportedly, the second season will film at Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park.
This will mark a turning point for Turner, as he will have to let go of years of emotional baggage as he moves away from Yosemite. However, the change is not for the sake of narrative but is drawn from the real world as real-life ISB agents travel to different parks as part of their jobs. Mark L. Smith, co-showrunner, stated to Netflix’s Tudum that this isn’t the first time Turner has moved away from the park.
This won’t be the first park he’s been in since Yosemite. He’s been to a lot of parks. He’s been busy, taking on a lot of cases. This will be the latest, and it’ll be more impactful for him.
Moreover, the change in location will force him to step out of his comfort zone.
Turner was so comfortable in Yosemite. He was the one leading this charge, and people followed him. And now, [we’re] putting Kyle on his back foot, making him very uncomfortable. This time we get to follow Turner into a park and let him lead us, and we stumble along with him as he’s kind of finding his way.
According to the official synopsis, Turner travels to Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park after a mysterious death shocks the area.

According to Netflix, Eric Bana is the only actor returning to lead Untamed Season 2. In the second season, he will be joined by a whole new cast, comprising some friendly and some not-so-friendly characters.
Reportedly, only two actors have been cast for the upcoming season: Shea Whigham and Kelly Hu.
Death by Lightning star Whigham will play a businessman called Ray Burkart. Burkart is a grieving father who will be butting heads with Turner this season over the investigation into his son’s murder.
BMF and Finding O’Hana star Hu will star as Awapuhi. Awapuhi is a Hawaii Island resident who had lived in Oahu for some years and was grieving the loss of her son. She will now return to her native place, the Big Island, and be forced to deal with the demons she has spent so much time running from.
The second season will also have six episodes, and the release date has not been announced yet, as the show is still in pre-production. In the coming days, we can expect more cast announcements and other revelations by Netflix.
WB Television will serve as the production studio behind the show, with Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith returning as co-showrunners and executive producers alongside Bana, John Wells, Erin Jontow, Todd Black, Tony Shaw, Steve Lee Jones, and Cliff Roberts (via Deadline).
