“The Aesir Pass attack stinks and doesn’t make sense”: Helldivers 2 Theory Could Point to a More Evolved Automaton Attack We’re Not Prepared For

In the ever-evolving war against the Automatons in Helldivers 2, players are constantly on their toes, ready to defend Super Earth’s interests at a moment’s notice. However, a recent surprise attack on Aesir Pass has left many scratching their heads, wondering if there’s more to this assault than meets the eye.

One intrepid Reddit user has put forth a wild theory suggesting that the Aesir Pass attack might not be what it seems. Could this be part of the Automatons’ hacking efforts that Helldivers were previously warned about, or is it a genuine threat to Super Earth’s position in the Ymir Sector?

The theory suggests that the recent message about the Automaton’s surprise assault on Aesir Pass is actually part of the enemy’s hacking efforts that Helldivers were previously warned about through another Dispatch message.

In a lengthy post on the Helldivers 2 subreddit, u/ChingaderaRara lays out their case for why the Aesir Pass attack “stinks and doesn’t make sense”:

Theory: The Aesir Pass message is an Automaton hack. byu/ChingaderaRara inHelldivers

Long story short, the user argues that the Aesir Pass attack doesn’t make sense in the context of the current Major Order, which requires players to defend X-45. They emphasize that Aesir Pass has no direct connection to X-45 or the Ymir Sector, and that the attack’s invasion rate and defense rate fluctuations are extremely unusual.

Some Helldivers were quick to jump on board with the theory, with one user exclaiming:

Others took the speculation a step further, suggesting a double bluff by the mechanical foes of Helldivers 2:

However, not everyone was convinced by the Automaton hack theory.

Some users pointed out that Aesir Pass was explicitly mentioned as a key location for Helldivers 2‘s SEAF (Super Earth Allied Forces) at the start of the current Major Order:

These comments suggest that Aesir Pass (AP) may be more important to Super Earth’s efforts than the theory gives it credit for.

As it turns out, the skeptics were right. In a tragic turn of events, Aesir Pass has since succumbed to the Automaton’s surprise attack. A recent Strategic Alert from Arrowhead confirmed the grim news, leaving Helldivers to ponder the implications for the ongoing conflict:

Aesir Pass has fallen. With the loss of this postion, the strategic viability of establishing a connection to our forces in the Ymir Sector has been significantly reduced.

X-45 must be held, no matter the cost. Even if the planet cannot be saved, the Battle Station Plans must be secured. The Helldivers are ordered to fight to the last soldier.

Was the Aesir Pass assault a genuine threat, or did the Automatons succeed in pulling off a sophisticated and clever ruse? The truth may never be known, but one thing is clear: the robot menace is growing more cunning and unpredictable by the day.

As the galactic war rages on in Helldivers 2, players must remain vigilant and adaptable, ready to face whatever new challenges the Automatons — or Arrowhead’s devious level designers and Game Master — throw their way. The battle for spreading managed democracy is far from over, and the Helldivers will need all their wit and firepower to emerge victorious.

What do you think about the Aesir Pass theory? Do you believe the Automatons are capable of such a devious hack, or was the attack a genuine threat that caught the Helldivers off guard? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments below!
