Milly Alcock‘s Supergirl is now available for streaming on HBO Max. Fans can catch up on the DC Universe movie starting Thursday, September 10, 2026, after its theatrical run, on the streaming service. The movie also stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, David Corenswet, and Jason Momoa.
Additionally, an American Sign Language (ASL) version, performed by Catalene Sacchetti, will also stream exclusively on HBO Max the same day.
Directed by Craig Gillespie, the movie follows Kara Zor-El/Supergirl as she joins forces with an unlikely companion on an interstellar journey of vengeance and justice. That’s when an unexpected adversary strikes too close to home.
Supergirl struggled at the box office before its HBO Max debut
Supergirl was released in theaters on June 26, 2026. But it failed to be well received by critics or fans, performing poorly at the box office.
Milly Alcock’s movie was projected to earn between $40-55 million during its opening weekend from 3,600 theaters across the United States and Canada. However, it earned a worldwide gross of $126 million at the end of its theatrical run, on an estimated budget of around $170-186 million.
It currently holds a 53% Tomatometer score and a 72% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes. The critic consensus reads “Millie Alcock brings a swagger to Kara Zor-El that’d make Krypton proud in this otherwise familiar origin story, dawning a promising new hero in the DCU who’s still waiting for an adventure that matches her vigor.”
The movie is the second movie in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe. Although it performed underwhelmingly at the box office, its story is integral to upcoming DC movies in the slate. The next movie, Clayface, is slated to release on October 23, 2026, followed by Man of Tomorrow on July 9, 2027.
