While Akira Toriyama is renowned for the Dragon Ball franchise, he is also the notable author of Dr. Slump. The story revolves around Penguin Village, and it features the adventures of a little robot girl, Arale Norimaki, and her creator, Senbei Norimaki. One of his old interviews was shared inTelepal Tokyo Edition 1986, Volume 3, and was later posted by Rumic World. During the interview, the manga artist shared how decided to shift his focus from Dr. Slump to Dragon Ball, explaining all the changes. Toriyama-Sensei said,
“For one thing, I wanted to change tempos and structures so as to draw a clear line between the old and new series. For example, I drew Dr. Slump in an American-like style and am writing Dragon Ball in a Chinese-like style. It would be difficult to draw manga if you don’t change your stories.”
According to the manga artist, he wanted both stories to be crystal-clear to the fans and how Dragon Ball was more of a Chinese-style series, whereas Dr. Slump has adapted an American style.
