Following the shocking ending of Stranger Things Season 5 Vol. 1, the Duffer brothers have shed light on character deaths in Vol. 2.

The final chapter may be here, but with Volume 1 failing to showcase any deaths, speculations about the second edition of Season 5, significantly amping the stakes, have started to make rounds on the internet. In accordance, the Duffer brothers, who created the fan-favorite fantasy drama, have shed light on why they constructed Volume 1 in such a way, and if fans can expect Volume 2 to ‘get bloodier.’

Stranger Things Season 5 Vol. 2 won’t be like the Red Wedding

In a recent discussion with Variety, Ross and Matt Duffer opened up about the absence of violent deaths in the first batch of episodes of Stranger Things Season 5, stating that they only wanted to focus on Will awakening his powers.

“Once we decided we knew we wanted to do the Will power stuff this season, we knew that that’s how we had to end Volume 1,” said Ross Duffer before adding, “So there’s the low point of all the kids being taken, but the high point of Will has these powers. That was always the discussion. Vecna taking these children was the low point we needed for the end of Volume 1.”

When asked if Volume 2 would feature any gore or “get bloodier,” in comparison to a somewhat toned-down Volume 1, Matt Duffer replied, “I’ve said this before: The show is not Game of Thrones. I’m hoping it surprises people. But there’s no Red Wedding, if that’s what you’re asking. That would be depressing.”

Notably, Stranger Things has witnessed several brutal deaths prior to Season 5, with its penultimate chapter finally giving viewers a look at “The Massacre at Hawkins Lab,” which resulted in One, aka Henry Creel or Vecna, orchestrating the murder of every other test subject present, except Eleven. Other notable deaths in the series so far include those of Barbara Holland, Billy Hargrove, Eddie Munson, Chrissy Cunningham, Alexei, the Creel family, and Bob Newby, among others.

While Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 1 is now streaming on Netflix, Volume 2 is scheduled to premiere on December 25, followed by the series finale on December 31.
