With Stranger Things Season 5 set to conclude the beloved Netflix series, the final season will reveal what Vecna has truly wanted ever since Eleven banished him to the unforgiving world of the Upside Down. The show’s creators, the Duffer brothers, recently shed some light on Vecna’s motivations, teasing that they’ve yet to reveal his ultimate plan in the series.
Duffer Bros on what Vecna wants in Stranger Things Season 5
In a recent interview with Variety, Ross and Matt Duffer opened up about Vecna’s endgame in the series. Although they shied away from revealing specific details, the duo confirmed that Hawkins’ kids will play a major role in his plans.
They started off by confirming that viewers know nothing yet about Vecna’s true motivations in Stranger Things. Matt Duffer played around with the question of what Vecna wants by simply describing it as “nothing good.”
When asked about Vecna’s comment in Season 5 Volume 1 about how “kids are the way he’s going to remake the world,” Matt Duffer responded by saying, “Right. What does that mean?” When the interviewer responded by saying that Vecna couldn’t possibly want to build a “nice world,” Matt Duffer responded coyly with, “I mean, depends on your perspective, you know?”
In Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 1, Vecna not only abducts a bunch of kids from Hawkins, but also refers to them as the “perfect vessels” for his plan. He also labels Will as the first “vessel.”
The first four episodes of Stranger Things Season 5 may not have revealed what Vecna wants, but the upcoming Volume 2 should provide more insight into the matter, considering it will feature more of his memories. “Yes, that’s what we call our new Russia storyline, because it’s very few characters,” said Matt when talking about Vecna’s memories. “They’re kind of isolated off on their own, Max and Holly. We’re very happy with how it integrates with the other storylines.”
Volume 2 of Stranger Things Season 5 is all set to premiere on Netflix on December 25.
