Mark Ruffalo has a hilarious response to one of the MCU’s worst-kept secrets regarding Spider-Man 4.
Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man 4, also known as Spider-Man: Brand New Day, will be released in United States theaters this summer. Directed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ Destin Daniel Cretton, the movie will once again see Tom Holland reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
What did Mark Ruffalo say about Spider-Man 4?
In a new video posted on YouTube by MTV UK, Ruffalo and Hemsworth are discussing the movies Tom Holland is starring in this summer. More specifically, the two of them talk about Spider-Man 4 and The Odyssey, the latter of which is being directed by Christopher Nolan.
At one point during the conversation, Ruffalo says he “hopes” he can go to the premieres of both films and then asks Hemsworth why the two of them weren’t cast in either project.
Some people online are reading too deeply into Ruffalo’s quote and think he’s denying that he’ll be in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The actor, however, is clearly joking here, as he’s being sarcastic for the entire conversation. It is well known that Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk character will be in Spider-Man 4, as his casting was reported in all of the trades. There were also photos of Ruffalo on the set of Brand New Day that emerged online last year.
Whether or not Ruffalo is also in Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday, which will see Hemsworth star as Thor, remains to be seen. Ruffalo and Hemsworth are now starring in a new thriller movie, Crime 101, that hits theaters next week.
With a supporting cast that includes Zendaya as Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Michael Mando as Scorpion, Marvin Jones III as Tombstone, and more, Spider-Man 4 arrives on July 31, 2026. The Odyssey, meanwhile, opens two weeks earlier on July 17.
