If Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had gotten his way, Spider-Man: Brand New Day would have featured the long-awaited debut of a major superhero who was first teased in the Marvel Cinematic Universe nine years ago.
Based on the first trailer alone, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is bursting with new and returning MCU characters. Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal, and Mark Ruffalo are reprising their respective MCU roles as Spider-Man, Punisher, and Hulk, while Michael Mando returns as the villainous Scorpion for the first time since Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The movie will also introduce several new villains, with Boomerang and Tarantula glimpsed in the trailer. The Hand, a recurring Daredevil villain, will also appear, as will Marvin Jones III as the crime boss Tombstone.
Of course, it’s not a Spider-Man movie without some of Peter Parker’s friends. Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are back as Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson and Ned Leeds, respectively, while Gwen Stacy and Harry Osborn have been rumored to make their MCU debuts in Brand New Day. However, if Feige had been successful, another key character from the Spider-Man mythos may have appeared in the fourth MCU-set Spider-Man movie.
Which popular Spider-Man character did Kevin Feige unsuccessfully push to see included in Brand New Day?
According to The Geeky Cast in a recent post on X, “Apparently Feige was pushing hard for Miles [Morales] and Sony said ‘nah.’” Sony’s refusal to allow Miles to appear in Brand New Day shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise for fans, since Feige told Variety last year that Marvel had “been told to stay away” from the character until after the conclusion of the animated Spider-Verse trilogy.

Created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Sara Pichelli, Miles Morales first appeared in 2011’s Ultimate Fallout #4, following the death of Peter Parker in Marvel Comics’ Ultimate Universe. The character went on to take over the mantle of Spider-Man in the universe, headlining two solo comic book series. Miles was later brought into the main Marvel universe following the end of the Ultimate imprint.
Miles is typically depicted as a teenager, with Sony Animation’s Spider-Verse trilogy portraying him as a 14 or 15-year-old, while Insomniac’s Spider-Man games aged him up to 17 years old. It’s unclear what age range Marvel Studios would be eyeing for Miles in the MCU, although the character has existed in the MCU since 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, since he was mentioned offhand by his uncle, Aaron Davis.
With Brand New Day confirmed to take place in 2028, this would make Miles Morales, at the very minimum, 11 years old, since Homecoming was set in 2016-17. However, since Aaron never indicated how old his nephew was, Marvel and Sony have some wiggle room to play with Miles’ age when he does end up appearing in the MCU.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31, 2026, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU.
