Recent shakeups in the gaming industry, especially Sony’s move to shut down Bluepoint Games, have resurfaced Shuhei Yoshida’s theory regarding a Bloodborne remake. The former Sony executive, in a January 2025 interview with Kinda Funny Games, highlighted the reasons why FromSoftware’s legendary game did not get a remake.
My theory is, because I remember Miyazaki really loved Bloodborne, what he created. So, I think he is interested but he is so successful and he is so busy, so he cannot do it himself. But he doesn’t want anyone else to touch it. So that’s my theory.
Fans find this theory highly credible in the wake of Bluepoint Games’ shutdown. The hopes for the 2015 game’s remake are slim at this point.

It’s true that PlayStation completely owns the Bloodborne IP and could’ve greenlit a remake or remaster if they wanted. However, Yoshida, in his interview, added that they did not do that because of the respect they have for Miyazaki.
The PlayStation team respects his wish. So that is my guess. I am not revealing any secret information.
The calls for a Bloodborne remake have reached FromSoftware’s director; however, in a 2024 interview with IGN, he lamented his circumstances.
Unfortunately, and I’ve said this in other interviews, it’s not in my place to talk about Bloodborne specifically. We simply don’t own the IP at FromSoftware. For me personally, it was a great project, and I have a lot of great memories for that game, but we’re not at liberty to speak to it.
Yoshida’s theory holds more ground in the context of Miyazaki’s statements. It’s not that he doesn’t want to remake the game; it’s simply because he doesn’t have the time to return to Yharnam right now. This could be the main reason why Sony never greenlit Bloodborne’s remake as well.
Bluepoint’s Shutdown Proves Miyazaki Was Right

Sony officially announced the layoffs of almost 70 employees following the shutdown of Bluepoint Games (via Kotaku). Fans loved their remakes of Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus; the studio was the best bet for remaking Bloodborne.
However, Sony wasted a ton of potential and time by handing its premier remakes studio a live-service God of War game. In such a scenario, Miyazaki’s hesitation to hand the reins of Bloodborne’s remake to any other studio is justifiable.
With Bluepoint out of the picture, there is virtually no remaining PlayStation studio with the technical pedigree to do Bloodborne justice. We’ll have to wait for any other studio to emerge that has the blessing of Miyazaki before we get a Bloodborne remake.
