Things Aren’t Looking Smooth for Marathon’s Server Slam

So far, at least on paper, according to SteamDB, the Marathon Server Slam event looks to be a success. The game managed to reach a peak of 143,621 players, and is currently hovering around 60,000 players. This number could rise over the weekend as more players jump in for their first hands-on experience.
However, a quick look at Twitter suggests that it’s not all going smoothly. Some players feel the game feels cluttered, the NPCs are difficult, and the game isn’t something they’re willing to pay for.
everything is so cluttered, the inventory stats look useless and clutters everything. a real eye sore of a game tbh. npc’s are challenging i guess for how much damage they do. nothing different from destiny. art style is fine but it should have stayed in destiny 2 dsc imo pic.twitter.com/uM9zuNOAOl— Jeffery. It’s ok to say a game is ass when it’s ass I don’t understand the people that are glazing it. You need to realize how big bungie is and this is the best they could do in 4 or 8 years however long.— Blitz (@BlitzJaw) February 27, 2026
It’s going to be interesting to see how things unfold for Marathon once it releases on March 5, 2026, as this game could reveal what lies ahead for Bungie.
