While Jurassic World Rebirth fell short of the billion-dollar threshold, the Scarlett Johansson-led entry still turned in significant returns by becoming one of the highest-grossing movies of summer 2025. Although there has been notable buzz surrounding a potential sequel ever since, a new report from Deadline (via Screen Rant) has now finally confirmed that a follow-up is indeed moving forward.
Although details regarding the sequel remain under wraps, and there’s no way to tell for certain what awaits the Rebirth sequel, going by early speculations, it’s safe to assume that the core team behind Rebirth will likely return for the follow-up.
Will Scarlett Johansson Return in the Jurassic World Rebirth Sequel?
Scarlett Johansson was one of the biggest draws of this soft reboot after the critical bashing of the Chris Pratt-led trilogy, which saw diminishing returns with each entry despite crossing the billion-dollar mark.
Even though Rebirth was also subject to divisive reviews, the general consensus surrounding Johansson’s performance was largely positive. And while there hasn’t been any official confirmation whether she’ll reprise her role in the Rebirth sequel, it’s highly likely given her long-standing laudation for the decades-long series (via People).
It has been a lifelong dream to be in a Jurassic movie for the last 15 years. Each time I heard that they were making a movie, I’d reach out and you know, say ‘I’m available here
In addition to her love for the IP, semi-reliable scooper Daniel Richtman has also suggested that Johansson is expected to return, especially with the sequel reportedly shaping up as a direct continuation of Rebirth.

Although there’s no way to tell for certain what the sequel holds, given that the ending sees the trio successfully retrieving the DNA samples and releasing the information to the world for free, the sequel could deal with the consequences of that decision.
While it’s unclear whether Gareth Edwards will return to helm the follow-up, the director did entertain the prospect of the sequel despite positioning Rebirth as its own thing. In his interview with Screen Rant, the director said:
Maybe there’s something in there. But no, we tried to make this movie like a single standalone. I’ve genuinely never talked about it with anybody. Not a single conversation with David Koepp or Frank Marshall or Universal about a sequel… All they want is for people to really like this movie and make the best film we can, and that’s it. And then it’s in the lap of the gods, everything else, really.
Even though Rebirth was undeniably a box office juggernaut, it did continue the pattern of diminishing returns as seen in the Chris Pratt-led trilogy. And following the changing box office climate, another subpar installment could further impact the franchise’s commercial viability.
