Sandra Bullock is slowly returning to Hollywood after her brief hiatus. Her world was turned upside down when her long-time partner, Bryan Randall, passed away in 2023 after a long battle with ALS. On her return to the industry, she needed a safe space that allowed her to take things slow. Working with long-time friends, Nicole Kidman and Keanu Reeves, is providing her with exactly that.
Insiders recently revealed how the Speed actress is doing after the passing of “her soulmate, her best friend.” A source told Star Magazine that Bullock was still adjusting to life without Randall. They claimed that she had some incredible people to support her through the hard days. The source shared:
There are still hard days, when she really misses Bryan and feels lonely. She’s still adjusting to life without him. She’s still mourning. She’s coming back to life, but it’s still one day at a time. Thankfully, she has some really incredible people around her to help carry it.
The source shared that Bullock had been spending time with friends Kidman, Reeves, and Jennifer Aniston. The source shared about her friendship with her Practical Magic co-star, “Spending time with Nicole and some of the original film’s producing team, which was largely women, was fantastic.”
The insider added, “She wanted to have that experience and that reunion she knew would feed her soul.” During a 2021 interview with Jada Pinkett Smith on the Red Table Talk, Bullock shared that Randall was the most supportive when she decided to adopt Laila.
He was not involved in the adoption, although he was her partner at the time. She shared that she wanted Randall to be an example for her children, describing him as patient and a Christian.
Sandra Bullock’s Upcoming Sequel With Nicole Kidman
Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman only collaborated once in their career, in the 1998 fantasy film, Practical Magic. Now, they are coming together for a sequel to the magical film, which is an adaptation of Alice Hoffman’s novel of the same name.
The 1998 film received negative reviews and grossed $68.3 million, falling short of its $75 million budget. However, over the years, the film gained a cult following, and people started to appreciate it more. The sequel was first reported in June 2024, with the news that both Kidman and Bullock are in negotiations to return (via Deadline).
Susanne Bier, who has worked with both Bullock and Kidman, is taking over the reins of this movie. The filming started in July 2025 and wrapped in September. The film’s script will be written by Akiva Goldsman and Succession fame Georgia Pritchett.
Besides Bullock and Kidman, Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing return as the Owens sisters’ aunts, Jet and Franny. It was confirmed that Nicole Kidman’s A Family Affair co-star, Joey King, and Game of Thrones fame Maisie Williams were joining the movie. King would portray one of Sally’s daughters.
According to producer Denise Di Novi, the sequel will maintain the spirit of the original while still offering a fresh story for new-age fans (via PEOPLE). Practical Magic 2 is set to be released on September 18, 2026, and will be around for the spooky Halloween season.

In May 2025, The Hollywood Reporter shared that Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves are reuniting for a new feature film. They famously co-starred in the 1994 action movie, Speed, as well as the romantic drama, The Lake House. They are now attached to star in a romantic thriller being developed at Amazon MGM Studios.
Noah Oppenheim is penning the script for the said movie, and the plot details are kept under tight wraps. Oppenheim previously worked on the 2016 movie, Jackie, and Robert De Niro’s Netflix series, Zero Day. The film is being produced by Mark Gordon, who worked with Reeves and Bullock in Speed.
While Bullock returns from a hiatus with this movie and Practical Magic 2, Reeves had a few projects in 2025. He appeared in Ballerina, reprising his role of John Wick. He was the angel Gabriel in the comedy film, Good Fortune. He also did a voice role in the hit AppleTV+ show, Severance.
Bullock’s last project before her hiatus was the 2022 release, The Lost City. It made nearly $200 million at the pandemic-struck box office.
