In 2015, Samsung introduced an innovative safety solution called the “Safety Truck” to address the dangers associated with overtaking large trucks on single-lane roads. The concept was driven by the high number of accidents caused when drivers attempted to pass trucks without a clear view of the road ahead.
The Safety Truck was equipped with a wireless camera mounted on the front of the vehicle, which captured a real-time view of the road. This feed was then transmitted to four large, weatherproof screens installed on the back of the truck. The screens, arranged in a two-by-two grid, displayed the live video feed to drivers behind the truck. This setup allowed following drivers to see the road conditions and oncoming traffic, making it safer for them to decide when to overtake the truck.
The technology behind the Safety Truck was designed to work in various lighting conditions, ensuring clear visibility both day and night. The screens provided a clear view of the road ahead, significantly reducing the risk of accidents caused by blind spots and sudden braking by the truck.
Samsung’s initiative aimed to demonstrate how technology could enhance road safety and prevent accidents. The Safety Truck garnered significant attention and praise for its innovative approach to a common road safety issue. While the concept was not widely adopted commercially, it highlighted the potential for technology to improve driving conditions and reduce traffic fatalities.
By introducing the Safety Truck, Samsung showcased its commitment to leveraging technology for social good and safety, inspiring further innovations in the automotive and transportation industries.
