One Piece just handed Imu’s scariest weapon a genuine problem, and it’s coming from the last person anyone expected. For years, Chopper’s Human-Human Fruit (the Hito Hito no Mi) got written off as the “boring” Devil Fruit, a punchline next to Luffy’s Gear 5 or Zoro’s swordsmanship.
Chapter 1177 flipped that script hard. As Imu’s Domi Reversi curse kept turning giants into immortal demon soldiers on Elbaf, Chopper stepped up and did something nobody else on the battlefield could manage: he pulled a victim back out of it. Turns out the fruit everyone slept on might be exactly what beats the World Government’s so-called god.
Chopper’s Hito-Hito no Mi Turns Demons Back Into Regular People

Here’s the scene that got everyone talking. One of the giants caught by Domi Reversi, twisted into one of Imu’s demonic soldiers, comes at Chopper mid-fight. Instead of just tanking the hit and swinging back, Tony Tony Chopper does something small and almost funny-looking: he slaps the guy. And the giant snaps out of it. The demon burns off, and the person underneath comes back.
That’s not random plot convenience. Chopper’s Hito Hito no Mi has always been, at its core, a fruit about becoming human. It’s why a reindeer who ate it can think, talk, and reason like a person instead of just growing bigger claws or sharper teeth. Oda’s even said flat out that if an actual human ate this fruit, they wouldn’t get some flashy new power set; they’d become an idealized, “more human” version of themselves. It’s the single Devil Fruit in the entire series built around the concept of humanity itself.
So when Domi Reversi’s whole trick is stripping someone of their humanity and shoving something demonic in its place, Chopper’s fruit is basically its natural enemy. He’s not fighting off a curse with brute strength. He’s fighting it with a power that fundamentally cancels it out. That’s a wild upgrade for a Devil Fruit that fans have spent decades calling the weakest one in the cast, and it happened almost quietly, buried inside a normal-looking punch.
One Piece: Chopper’s Rumble Ball Powers Might Be a Hidden Awakening
Now, here’s where things get speculative but pretty convincing. Chopper hasn’t been shown awakening his fruit the way Luffy or Kaido did. There’s no dramatic glow-up moment, no new form with a name attached to it. But the effect he just pulled off, reaching beyond his own body to change something in someone else, is exactly the textbook definition of what an Awakening does. Doflamingo could turn a whole city into puppets with strings. Katakuri could turn the ground around him into mochi. If Chopper’s fruit is starting to affect the world outside himself, that’s the same category of power, just aimed at reversing curses instead of causing chaos.
The timing lines up too. This reversal effect seems tied to his Rumble Ball transformations, specifically the window when he’s in Monster Point, his strongest and most unstable form. That’s not a coincidence Oda would leave in by accident. It suggests Chopper’s been quietly building toward this for a while, and the reason nobody noticed sooner is almost painfully simple: he mostly treats normal humans, so a power that “restores humanity” had nothing to work with until Domi Reversi showed up.
If that theory holds, Chopper isn’t just useful in the fight against Imu. He might be the one character capable of undoing an army of demon soldiers, one hit at a time. For a Devil Fruit everyone dismissed for over two decades, that’s about as big a redemption arc as One Piece has ever pulled off.
What are your thoughts on Chopper’s Hito Hito no Mi being the direct counter to Imu’s Domi Reversi? We’d love to know your opinions in the comments below.
