Asta’s exaggerated physique in the Black Clover anime has always been a hot topic in the fandom. Yuki Tabata’s art style in the manga has been inconsistently translated into the anime. The recent batch of episodes makes Asta’s proportions a very wide problem.
Somewhere down the road, Studio Pierrot decided that muscular Asta means a human nacho chip, and Asta suddenly went from a moderately jacked protagonist to having an extremely wide chest. If this issue doesn’t get rectified soon, the upcoming season of Black Clover might very well be compared to One Punch Man season 3.
Widesta Is Making Serious Black Clover Scenes Into Gag Moments
Asta‘s absurdly wide proportions have made fans create a new nickname for the protagonist: Widesta. The main issue is the difference between Asta’s manga version and anime version. In the manga, Asta has a standard amount of muscles. He is still short, but the proportions do not feel weird because his overall muscles are developed.
On the other hand, the anime focuses too much on the chest and abdomen area, almost as if Asta constantly skips arms and leg days during his training. Of course, Asta’s body has developed in the manga after the timeskip, and he has become more muscular, but it isn’t exaggerated like in the anime.
The exaggeration in Asta’s physique makes it hard to concentrate on serious events at times. The inconsistent musculature adds even more to the problem, as Asta is a normal-sized guy in one shot and suddenly bursts with muscles in another.
Studio Pierrot Better Buckle up for Upcoming Black Clover Season

Before One Punch Man season 3 dropped, everyone was ready to embrace the new season, but J.C. Staff’s stiff animation and weird character designs quickly turned it into a disappointment. While Black Clover has not shown a complete degradation of animation quality just yet, a single character design choice is enough to derail the entire series.
With Black Clover preparing to make a comeback soon, this is a crucial juncture for Studio Pierrot to mend its mistakes. It could kill the anime’s momentum, and Black Clover might become another meme format. If Widesta isn’t fixed, Black Clover runs the risk of a catastrophic character design mistake.
Studio Pierrot still has time to fix the issues at hand, and Asta deserves a better character design. If the studio doubles down and makes Nacho Asta permanent, then Black Clover might become a parody anime that just exists to give fans a good laugh.
