One highly anticipated DC comic book is making waves months ahead of its scheduled release. The book in question has been described by its co-writer as drawing from Mission: Impossible and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. This suggests a more intense, action-driven experience than is typical for the star of the series.
The comic in question is Absolute Catwoman. Written by Che Grayson and Scott Snyder, with art by Bengal, Absolute Catwoman is the first spinoff series in DC’s Absolute Universe. It is also apparently going to be a far cry from the more subtle, stealth-focused stories normally associated with Selina Kyle.

Grayson and Bengal both spoke of the upcoming Absolute Catwoman series in an interview in the premiere issue of “COMICS! The Magazine”. Grayson describes the comic as “a high-end, big secrets, higher-stakes Catwoman that we’ve never seen before.” She specifically compares the book to the Mission: Impossible and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo franchises. Bengal adds that the new helmeted, street-kid-turned-apex-predator version of Selina Kyle embodies the Absolute philosophy of the new DC line. She is “freedom beyond boundaries, both in story and in visual storytelling.”
What we know about DC’s Absolute Catwoman so far
The Absolute Universe version of Selina Kyle was largely a shadowy presence for the first year of Absolute Batman. She grew up on the streets of Gotham City, alongside Bruce Wayne. She was the first to reach out to him after his father’s violent death, sneaking him out of the house to go see a movie.

The two dated as teenagers and briefly lived together in a penthouse apartment. Even then, Selina was a skilled thief, whom Bruce assisted with several burglaries. However, the two broke up at some point for reasons thus far ungiven.
Selina was sporadic when it came to keeping in touch with her childhood friends. They presumed she was just traveling the world, living off her ill-gotten gains. However, Selina was honing her skills, becoming an international thief known as Catwoman.

Catwoman is notorious enough that she was recognized by covert specialist Alfred Pennyworth, who said she could not be trusted. Despite this, Bruce Wayne still trusted her to help him in his battle with Bane. That trust may have been misplaced, however, as Selina was revealed to have stolen a Venom container that had been implanted in Bruce’s body. It remains to be seen if this plot thread will be continued on the new Absolute Catwoman series.
Absolute Catwoman #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on June 10, 2026.
