Netflix has revealed the title of its upcoming animated Ghostbusters series. The announcement was made on Ghostbusters Day, celebrating the anniversary of the 1984 original.

The streaming giant collaborated with Sony Pictures Animation to confirm the project will be called Ghostbusters: Night Shift. A first look at the show’s logo art accompanied the reveal, offering fans a glimpse of the stylized direction the series intends to take.

Slated for a 2027 premiere, the show comes from Sony Pictures Animation, the powerhouse behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Netflix described the Ghostbusters project as the next chapter in the franchise’s ghoul-catching legacy, bringing supernatural comedy and paranormal action back to animation.
Plot details are scarce, but the key art hints at a broader scope than usual ghost-hunting. The redesigned logo suggests the team may face threats that extend beyond the spirits of the immaterial world.
Ben Hibon, Elliott Kalan, Jason Reitman, Gil Kenan, Amie Karp, and Dan Aykroyd serve as executive producers on the series. Notably, Reitman and Kenan co-wrote the franchise’s most recent installments, Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Reitman, the son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, took the lead on the franchise his father helped create. Meanwhile, Kenan also earned an Oscar nomination for his animated film Monster House.
The franchise is no stranger to television. The Real Ghostbusters ran for seven seasons from 1986, functioning as a direct continuation of the first two films. Extreme Ghostbusters then followed in 1997, offering a grittier take with a new cast. This latest entry marks the first major animated series in the universe in decades.
Saturday’s announcement also formed part of a wider charitable effort. Reitman and Kenan confirmed that the Ghostbusters Give Back initiative had exceeded its $500,000 fundraising goal.
