Marvel may have finally solved its Blade problem.

Marvel Studios has been trying to get a Blade movie off the ground for many years. The project was first announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2019, at which time it was also announced that Mahershala Ali would play the titular character. The film, however, has had a hard time getting off the ground for several different reasons, as the movie has still not come to fruition.

There have been two alternate versions of Blade that have since appeared in the MCU — Wesley Snipes in Deadpool & Wolverine and a Blade Knight character, voiced by Todd Williams, in Marvel Zombies. Having said that, the aforementioned Blade movie with Ali does not have a release date at this time.

How might Marvel have solved its Blade problem?

In a recent episode of Happy Sad Confused, Oscar Isaac, who plays Moon Knight in the MCU, discussed the possibility of a Midnight Suns project. It’s important to note that, while there have been plenty of rumors and reports about it becoming a reality,  Marvel has not yet officially confirmed that a Midnight Suns movie or TV show is being planned.

However, if one were to be planned, it would most likely revolve around Isaac’s Moon Knight, Ali’s Blade, and Ghost Rider. Ryan Gosling’s name has been associated with potentially playing Ghost Rider in the MCU for years, now, though there’s also been no confirmation on this at this time.

Having said all that, assuming that Midnight Suns with Isaac, Ali, and Gosling is something that Marvel is interested in pursuing, it could be the way to finally get Blade into the MCU. We can really only speculate as to Marvel is having such a hard time getting a Blade movie off the ground — it doesn’t sound like it should be all that complicated, but, for whatever reason, it is. At this point, we just need Blade to show up. If Midnight Suns is coming together, Kevin Feige would be wise to fast-track it and have that serve as Ali’s official MCU debut. That’d put less pressure on how Blade comes across, as Ali would be able to bounce off the other supporting characters in the film, and they could then hone in on whatever works best for his solo movie.

We all want Blade in the MCU. They can’t figure out how to make a solo Blade movie work. So let’s make Midnight Suns become a thing ASAP, can we?
