Jason Ritter has joined the cast of Lanterns.

Lanterns is the forthcoming DCU series coming from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television. The show is co-written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. It will see Kyle Chandler play Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre portray John Stewart, while Kelly Macdonald is also playing a sheriff character named Kerry.

Who is Jason Ritter playing in Lanterns?

According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, Ritter has been cast as Macdonald’s character’s husband. Further details remain under wraps at this time; however, it is worth noting that The Hollywood Reporter described Sheriff Kerry as “a no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town” when Macdonald was cast.

Ritter was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in 2012 for his portrayal of Mark Cyr on Parenthood. He has also starred in television shows such as Joan of Arcadia, The Event, Gravity Falls, Girls, Ken (Probably Saves the World), and Raising Dion, among other titles.

His filmography, meanwhile, includes 2003’s Freddy vs. Jason, 2008’s W., 2011’s The Perfect Family, 2015’s The Meddler, 2019’s Frozen II, and more.

The logline for Lanterns reads, “The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”

In addition to the aforementioned cast, Lanterns stars Garret Dillahunt as a modern cowboy named William Macon, Poorna Jagannathan as a woman named Zoe, Nicole Ari Parker as John Stewart’s mother, and Ulrich Thomsen as the villainous Sinsetro. The first two episodes of the series are directed by James Hawese, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Lindelof, King, and Mundy.

An HBO premiere date for Lanterns has not yet been announced, though the show is expected to arrive at some point in 2026.
