A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms actor Peter Claffey spoke highly of his costar when asked about his work experience with Dexter Sol Ansell. After revealing he had a completely different childhood than the young star, Claffey said he’s trying to keep Ansell grounded.

In an interview with People, the Irish actor gushed about his great working relationship with his 11-year-old co-star:

It just feels like home every time we get into a scene [together]. I’m really lucky, really fortunate to get to work with him.

The duo plays Dunk and Egg in HBO’s new Game of Thrones spinoff based on George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg series. The show has been renewed for Season 2, where fans will see more of the tandem’s adventures.

Peter Claffey Reveals How He Built Rapport With Dexter Sol Ansell

The prequel series revolves around the hedge knight Ser Duncan the Tall, who formed an unlikely friendship with Egg (Aegon V Targaryen) after taking him as his squire. Since exploring their bond is part of the narrative, it’s only proper to ensure that the two lead stars have undeniable chemistry.

Claffey said he and Ansell got along well from the start, and from there, they worked on building rapport with each other by engaging in various fun activities (via ScreenRant):

They only did one chemistry read, because we clicked on that day. Then we had two months of prep before we got into it. We spent a lot of time at the arcade and went for food. I just got to know him, got to know his family, and they’re just really lovely, down-to-earth, nice people.

Their efforts paid off as their interactions on the show felt genuine. No one is outshining the other as both have opposite personalities that blend well. Showrunner Ira Parker credits the actors’ personalities in bringing out the best in their characters.

Dunk and Egg are slowly establishing themselves as a franchise duo. We know many famous tandem characters from movies and shows, and these two are certainly leaving a mark.

When asked by Rotten Tomatoes TV which famed dynamic duos they compare their characters to, they both agreed on Shrek and Donkey. Claffey also mentioned Batman and Robin, as well as Shaggy and Scooby-Doo. Ansell chimed in and suggested Godzilla and King Kong.

The show has, so far, been a success for an HBO project with a modest budget. With a stunning 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it certainly has a promising future ahead.
