Between DC Comics revitalizing his comic line and his DC Universe film, 2025 was a big year for Superman. The hype continues into 2026, with the publisher announcing that a classic foe of the Man of Steel will be getting a new origin story. This story will unfold in a four-issue miniseries cowritten by filmmaker and comic writer Kevin Smith.
The miniseries will be titled Bizarro: Year None and center around the backwards doppelganger of Superman. There have been many versions of Bizarro in the comics and in various adaptations. This has led to considerable confusion over the years.

Originally, Bizarro was a confused clone of the Man of Steel who tried to do good but only made a mess of things. Bizarro used the same imperfect cloning ray that made him to create a square-shaped Earth of his own called Htrae, aka Bizarro World. Later retcons reimagined Bizarro World as the alternate reality of either Earth-29 or Earth-0. There were also Bizarros who were the result of Lex Luthor‘s experiments to clone a Superman he could control. Depending on the story, Bizarro could be actively evil (being the opposite of everything Superman is) or well-meaning but easily tricked into doing bad things.
How Bizarro: Year None will revamp the Superman villain
Bizarro: Year None will explore the conflicted character with a new origin story that promises to be equally convoluted. It will be co-written by Kevin Smith and Justice League vs the Fatal Five screenwriter Eric Carrasco. The artwork and main cover will be provided by artist Nick Pitarra. The first issue will also have variant covers by Frank Quitely and Ibrahim Moustafa.

The series will follow Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen and Daily Planet editor Perry White as they follow a story into space. This leads them to a strange version of Metropolis, which might be another world or a new dimension. As they explore this strange new world, they meet Bizarro and try to learn the truth behind him. Is he a misguided Superman fan, an agent of chaos created by sheer chance, or just some guy?
Bizarro: Year None #1 will arrive in comic shops everywhere on April 1, 2026.
