Quentin Tarantino became David Lynch’s biggest hater after the latter directed a movie in 1992 called Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me. Being an acclaimed director, David Lynch’s 1992 film was quite ahead of its time and, as a result, was deemed a failure.
After watching the David Lynch movie, Quentin Tarantino had a terrible reaction against the director, and in a 1992 interview with LA Weekly, Tarantino also claimed that David Lynch’s Twin Peaks was so disastrous that he doesn’t have any desire to see another Lynch film again.
I’m not ragging on other people, but after I saw ‘Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me’ at Cannes. David Lynch has disappeared so far up his own a** that I have no desire to see another David Lynch movie until I hear something different.
Tarantino further continued,
And you know, I love him. I loved him.
However, these comments proved to be ineffective in the long run as Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me eventually as upon a second consideration, the David Lynch film was hailed as one of the finest films ever created. So… what went wrong?
Why Quentin Tarantino Hated David Lynch’s Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
There were several reasons why David Lynch’s Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me was considered one of the worst movies created in the 1990s.
Since Lynch, who had previously created the 1990 TV show Twin Peaks and left it on a cliffhanger, fans had falsely assumed that the 1992 movie would be a continuation of the story. However, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me turned out to be a prequel rather than a sequel.

Other than the fact that it was a prequel, David Lynch’s Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me turned out to be a much darker and jarring film than what fans were accustomed to. Depicting moments of inc*st, abuse, and the character of Laura Palmer at the center of the storyline was much darker in terms of scenes and visual effects.
Naturally, Quentin Tarantino’s comments on Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me were quite on point with regard to the era of 1992. However, were his comments justified against David Lynch? We don’t think so.

Well, although Tarantino was right to have his opinion and a say about Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, his comments did seem a bit hypocritical since the director had also barely taken the steps of Hollywood.
Back in 1992, Tarantino had just released his first film in his Hollywood career called Reservoir Dogs. With stolen money, twelve robbers, and an iconic plot, Reservoir Dogs was indeed a fine movie. However, even Tarantino had his fair share of failure. With movies like Death Proof and The Hateful Eight, even Tarantino had some movies that were considered failures.
That is why we think that although Tarantino might have been right to bash David Lynch a bit, he wasn’t right in being so harsh about it. Do you think Tarantino’s comments were justified? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me and Reservoir Dogs are available to stream on HBO Max and Plex, respectively (USA).
