Hugh Jackman promised to permanently hang up the Adamantium claws when he starred in the role of Wolverine in the 2017 film Logan. However, when Ryan Reynolds came knocking on the door, Jackman had no problem reprising his role for the 2024 movie, Deadpool & Wolverine.
Speaking during Variety’s Actors on Actors, Jackman revealed that he doesn’t seem to consider it that big of a deal. Stating that he isn’t “one of those guys”, Hugh Jackman stated that he’s not even going to say sorry.
I’ve told everyone that I’m done. I’m not one of those guys. Then I went, ‘You know what? I change my mind.’ It’s not that big of a deal. I’m not even gonna say I’m sorry. And it was so awesome.
Well, following his reappearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, some people did not appreciate Hugh Jackman’s return as Logan after the 2017 movie, and even Kevin Feige advised not to return (via Empire).
Hugh Jackman Broke His Wolverine Promise After Logan
After Logan was released, Hugh Jackman sat down to recall his side of portraying the character of Wolverine for almost two decades to People Magazine.
The actor had revealed that the role started taking a toll on him, and after a while, it wasn’t fun anymore.
I had got to the point probably 10 years ago I was like, I’m not enjoying it. It was hurting. It was tough.
However, the actor had no choice but to return for Deadpool & Wolverine as he told The Guardian that the prospect “to punch the s–t out of Ryan Reynolds every day,” was quite enticing for him to say no.
When people would ask me [to reprise the role] – including Ryan, every five seconds – I was like: I’m done. I just wanted to do it, and I felt it in my gut … I get to punch the s–t out of Ryan Reynolds every day.
Following his reprisal in Deadpool & Wolverine, Hugh Jackman has also teased that he will return for more Marvel projects if they have a requirement for Wolverine.
Will Hugh Jackman Continue His Wolverine Legacy?

Following his reprisal in Deadpool & Wolverine, the actor appeared on The Graham Norton Show (via The Wrap) to talk about his future plans regarding Wolverine.
Logan, who died at the end of Logan, was a Wolverine variant, and in Deadpool & Wolverine, we are introduced to another Wolverine variant as the main lead. This ensured Marvel Studios’ promise of not disturbing Logan‘s legacy. However, for Hugh Jackman, the actor will never say never again to another Wolverine role.
I am never saying ‘never’ ever again. I did mean it when I said ‘never,’ until the day when I changed my mind. But I really did for quite a few years, I meant it.
This could potentially mean that Hugh Jackman will probably be a part of Avengers: Secret Wars and the soft-reboot that Marvel has in store until after the events of the 2027 film. It remains to be seen how many years Jackman keeps on doing the role of Wolverine, and when the actor will finally put down the claws for good.
