The upcoming Highlander reboot movie has added another new cast member.
Amazon MGM Studios is making a remake of Highlander. The original movie was directed by Russell Mulcahy and stars Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, Sean Connery as Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, Clancy Brown as The Kurgan, Roxanne Hart, and Beatie Edney as Heather MacLeod.
The new Highlander movie comes from director Chad Stahelski. Man of Steel’s Henry Cavill has been tapped to lead the film, while the cast also includes Russell Crowe, Marisa Abela, Dave Bautista, and Karen Gillan. Both Bautista and Gillan are known for starring in Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy franchise.
Who has joined the cast of the Highlander reboot?
Per The Hollywood Reporter, another Guardians of the Galaxy star has joined the cast of Highlander, as Djimon Hounsou will play “an immortal warrior from Africa” in the film.
Hounsou plays Korath the Pursuer in the MCU, while he also portrayed the wizard Shazam in several DCEU projects, including 2019’s Shazam!, 2022’s Black Adam, and 2023’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods. His filmography further includes 2000’s Gladiator, 20003’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider — The Cradle of Life, 2005’s Constantine, 2006’s Blood Diamond, 2014’s How to Train Your Dragon 2, 2016’s The Legend of Tarzan, 2017’s King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, 2020’s A Quiet Place Part II, 2023’s Gran Turismo, 2023’s Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire, and 2024’s Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver, among other roles.
“Cavill is playing Connor MacLeod, a Medieval Scottish Highlander who discovers he is an immortal warrior,” The Hollywood Reporter’s article notes. “With the help of a swordsman named Ramirez, to be played by Crowe, the titular Highlander battles other immortals across the centuries, until, as the line in the original 1986 movie exclaimed, ‘there can be only one.’”
The Highlander reboot is expected to begin filming at the end of this month. A release date has not yet been set.
