Brad Pitt‘s Heart of the Beast has finally landed a release date, with Paramount announcing that the movie will exclusively arrive in theaters on Sept. 25, 2026 (via Deadline). The movie comes from director David Ayer, with some early reactions calling it his best outing since Fury (via World of Reel).
Written by Cameron Alexander, the movie pairs Brad Pitt with a German Shepherd in the lead. The story sees his character, an ex-soldier, and his retired combat dog embark on a difficult journey to make it back to the mainland after surviving a plane crash caused by his character’s heart attack and becoming stranded in the Alaskan wilderness.
Considering Pitt remains one of the last major movie stars with proven box office draw, as evidenced by the success of last year’s F1, and with the movie seemingly centering on the bond between the dog and the ex-soldier, this could be another box office win under his belt.
Heart of the Beast Will Be Reminiscent of Old-School Hollywood
Despite Pitt’s busy schedule, who currently has two more movies lined up, The Adventures of Cliff Booth and A24’s The Riders, the reunion between the actor and Ayer, who previously worked on Fury, “came together really easily.”
Ahead of production, Ayer claimed that the movie will be reminiscent of old-school Hollywood adventure movies, which have become rare in the current IP-driven landscape. He told Collider:
All I can say is it’s just going to be a classic old-school adventure movie. This is what Hollywood excelled at for decades, and I want to bring that cinematic tradition back and just adventure storytelling.
Given the success of F1, which emerged as one of the biggest summer blockbusters while embracing the spirit of old-school sports dramas, there’s a good chance Heart of the Beast could become another major hit depending on the word of mouth.

Heart of the Beast will release on September 25, 2026.
