FC Barcelona Announces World’s First Video Game Platform from a Sports Club

The popular Spanish football club, FC Barcelona has launched a video game platform called Barça Games. Barça Games is the first-ever video game platform from a sports club as FC Barcelona looks to create new entertainment experiences in the digital space for the long term. The new video game platform has been co-developed by FC Barcelona, Mas Ros Media, and FireSPORTS.
FC Barcelona revealed Barça Games at the FC Barcelona museum headquarters in Barcelona, Spain on November 8 and is expected to launch by April 2024. The platform will give users access to several activities that will promote interaction with FC Barcelona fans.

Barça Games was unveiled at the Barça Immersive Tour which is the largest immersive room in a sporting museum in Europe and the attendees included FC Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, Rodrigo Figueroa Reyes, founder and CEO of FiReSPORTS, and Marcos Santana, the founder of Mas Ros Media.

The video game platform aligns with FC Barcelona’s aim to connect with new audiences and reach more fans. It will also offer content to stream such as series, documentaries, and films that will cater to the vast gaming community along with games. Talking about Barça Games, FC Barcelona president, Joan Laporta said that he wants to bring all the Barca fans together in one digital community.
Laporta also spoke about FC Barcelona’s place in the digital arena and mentioned that the club saw the most engagement with its fans, with more than 1.4 million interactions all over the world for the second time in a row. FC Barcelona is also the most followed sports entity on social media with over 400 million followers and Barça Games will only add to that number. He stated:
The creation of the Barça Games platform is in response to the Club’s wish to continue leading in terms of new opportunities and to aid the construction of the Digital Espai Barça, bringing together in a single digital community all those Barça fans we have around the world and strengthening their sense of belonging to FC Barcelona.
The founder of Mas Ros Media, Marcos Santana also said that Barça Games brings sports and video games together. He said, “The appearance of broadband fragmented entertainment completely, sport and video games became together leaders in the sector.” He further added that Barça Games “represents both in one platform and under the Barça brand, one of the most important and relevant in sport in the entire world.”

Rodrigo Figueroa Reyes, founder and CEO of FireSPORTS mentioned that Barça Games will become the dream for a brand to connect with audiences. He said:
Barça Games will become a dream for the most important brands in the world because it will allow them to connect with one of the most complex and difficult audiences to reach, via creative, sophisticated, and unique formats from the world-famous FC Barcelona.
It was announced that Barça Games is under development right now but there will be events and announcements soon that will provide more information on how sports and gaming will be integrated. Although there were some activities revealed at the presentation, more details will be revealed as the platform nears its release.

The activities included listening to music on Spotify, playing video games, participating in tournaments, socializing with other FC Barcelona fans, and exclusive store access to buy Barça Games t-shirts and tickets for concerts and sporting events. Barça Games will also offer on-demand content to attract users around FC Barcelona from all over the world.
Additionally, Barça Games users will also be able to collect points on the platform using which they can become a part of Virtual Masia. This is the academy that has given the world some of the biggest football players in the history of FC Barcelona which will have a digital version in Barça Games. The digital academy will also help develop both gamers as well as professionals and occasional users on the platform upon release.
