Netflix viewers are expressing disappointment following the cancellation of Terminator Zero. The anime, created by James Cameron and Gale Anne Hurd, will not return for a second season. It has prompted a wave of reactions online, with viewers questioning the decision to end the series after just one season.
Netflix fans can’t get over Terminator Zero’s cancellation
The cancellation of Terminator Zero has continued to garner strong reactions from viewers, with many taking to social media to question Netflix’s decision to end the anime after a single season. The series, set within the Terminator universe created by James Cameron and Gale Anne Hurd, debuted on August 29, 2024.
The cancellation was confirmed by creator and showrunner Mattson Tomlin. Responding to a fan asking about a second season, Tomlin wrote, “It was cancelled.” He later explained that while the series was well received, it did not attract a large enough audience. “The critical and audience reception to it was tremendous, but at the end of the day not nearly enough people watched it,” he stated. Tomlin added that he had planned a Future War storyline for seasons two and three.
Fans responded with disappointment. One user posted, “Netflix really said ‘we’ll greenlight anything anime’ and then proved they’ll also cancel anything anime.” Another wrote, “Terminator Zero is arguably the best Terminator story since T2, yet Netflix has decided to cancel it. What a waste.”
A third commented, “Why?! It was Animated by a great Studio too… It a shame maybe Crunchyroll or Amazon pick it up…” Meanwhile, another asked, “Why cancel a 95% rt show with fans begging for more?”
