The Forza Horizon series has finally made it to Japan, and it couldn’t have been grander than this. Forza Horizon 6 features more than 550+ cars and Tokyo as its main city, making the game a dream come true for countless gamers and sim racers. For many, racing is synonymous with Japan, and Playground Games has every intention of paying respect to it, starting with including some of the most iconic racing pop-culture references inside the game.

The Forza Horizon 6 map, a look at which was released earlier this week, revealed that it will be featuring the iconic Akina Pass Route from Initial D, which is, if not the most, then one of the most influential racing anime of all time.

The internet has been buzzing ever since Playground Games dropped the full map reveal for Forza Horizon 6, and Initial D fans have every reason to be excited. Located on the very top right of the map, players were able to locate the very distinctive Akina Pass route on the map, which functions as the home course for Takumi Fujiwara, the main character of the anime.

Playground Games itself confirmed the connection, officially stating that Forza Horizon 6‘s Japan includes world-famous routes inspired by the C1 loop and Gingko Avenue, as well as mountain passes such as Mt. Haruna and Bandai Azuma.

Moreover, there is more than one route taken from Initial D in the upcoming game. Spotted on the bottom left corner of the map, on what is a road that is likely based on Hokone’s Nanamagari, is the home course of Team Spiral, a fictional group of racers in the anime.

There is much more going on in Forza Horizon 6 than just a few references to Initial D. The whole map is full of easter eggs that will have every player scouring for them for weeks after the game releases on May 19, 2026.

To start with, the game’s prologue gives a clear showcase of Mount Fuji and the much-looked-forward-to Shinkansen bullet train, along with a snowy mountain terrain for gamers to race on. The most iconic reference, however, still stays the Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86, which is yet another, and possibly the biggest nod to Initial D.

The game will also feature Daikoku PA-style car meets for players, referencing one of Japan’s most legendary real-world car gathering spots in real life. Apart from this, there will likely be the Ebisu Minami or the Nikko Circuit, with neither of them being confirmed so far.

Last, but not least, Forza Horizon 6 will be featuring a Touge Battle mode, an intense race circuit where players will be able to go head-on in 1v1s on some of the most iconic mountain circuits based in Japan.
