The Independent National Electoral Commission said that 98.23 percent of the results of Saturday’s Edo State Governorship election have been uploaded into its Result Viewing Portal as of the time of filing this report.

Accordingly, 4439 out of 4519 results of polling units across the 18 Local Governments of the state have been uploaded.

This means that only results from 80 polling units are yet to be uploaded.

Saturday evening, 90.33 percent of the results had been uploaded to the IreV.

According to the results uploaded so far, the battle for the governorship race has been narrowed down to the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Monday Okpebholo and his rival of the Peoples Democracy Party, PDP, Asue Ighodalo.

Akpata of the Labour Party and other candidates have been knocked out.

The election has over 2.2 million voters with permanent voters’ cards across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.

Earlier, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Edo, Anugbum Onuoha, reassured of the electronic transmission of the results.

on their IREV Portal. There are only 84 units result still being awaited. The turnout so far is around 32 per cent.
The PDP candidate is in a commanding lead and has clearly won the two local governments in Edo Central where full results have been uploaded. And has unassailable lead in more than two-third of the remaining local government areas.
Since 03:58 am CAT on September 22, 2024 INEC has not uploaded any new unit result and the service has become intermittently unreachable and unstable.
The question now is:
(1) What are the chances turnout in 84 units will be significantly higher than what has been declared so far?
(2) Results of the 84 units will be significantly different from what appears to be consistently “normal” so far apart from a very few units where turnout was recorded at nearly 100 per cent and the APC candidate was awarded nearly all the votes in those units. Very few units. You can easily spot them out as not following the norm with all the other uploaded units. Still, the PDP candidate is in a clear lead.
(3) What is the cause of the delay in releasing the result of the renaining 84 polling units?
Time will tell!
