Lucasfilm has finally shared the official trailer and new poster for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, its newest Star Wars TV show about Sith Lord Darth Maul. The animated series is scheduled to debut on April 6 on Disney+ with the first two episodes. Afterward, two episodes will premiere each week, with the final two airing on May 4th.

“Set after the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, this pulpy adventure finds Maul plotting to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet untouched by the Empire. There, he crosses paths with a disillusioned young Jedi Padawan who could be the apprentice he is seeking to aid him in his relentless pursuit for revenge,” reads the show’s official logline.

The video teases what’s next for the fan-favorite villain after escaping the Empire during Order 66. It features Darth Maul plotting his revenge against the Empire for their betrayal. His plan includes enlisting a Jedi Padawan to become his apprentice. The trailer highlights some of the show’s action-packed sequences, promising fans lots of epic lightsaber duels.

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is created by Dave Filoni, based on Star Wars characters created by George Lucas. The animated series will feature the voice of Star Wars vet Sam Witwer, who is reprising his role as Darth Maul from Dave Filoni’s popular The Clone Wars and Rebels shows. Joining him are Wagner Moura, Gideon Adlon as Devon Izara, Wagner Moura as Brander Lawson, Richard Ayoade as Two-Boots, Dennis Haysbert as Master Eeko-Dio-Daki, Chris Diamantopoulos as Looti Vario, Charlie Bushnell as Rylee Lawson, Vanessa Marshall as Rook Kast, David C. Collins as Spybot, A.J. LoCascio as Marrok, and Steve Blum as Icarus.

Executive producers are Filoni, Athena Yvette Portillo, Matt Michnovetz, Brad Rau, Carrie Beck, Josh Rimes, and Alex Spotswood, with Rau as the supervising director. According to Witwer, the show will explore new sides of the titular villain. Ray Park and Peter Serafinowicz originally portrayed the character in 1999’s The Phantom Menace.

“We learn some different things about this character,” Witwer previously shared during the show’s announcement. “He’s got some different traits that you wouldn’t necessarily think he has that make perfect sense from what he’s been through.”
