Daredevil’s Charlie Cox Recalls ‘Brutal’ Born Again Stunt

While some fans continue to remain unsure about Daredevil: Born Again living up to the brutality of the Netflix series, lead star Charlie Cox recently recalled witnessing a stunt on the set of the Disney+ continuation that he considered “so brutal.”

While Born Again largely features a new creative team, there are a few exceptions, most notably in the stunt department. Phil Silvera, a second-unit director and stunt coordinator on Netflix’s Daredevil for its first two seasons, is back in the same roles for Born Again.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, series co-director Justin Benson noted that considers Daredevil’s lack of superpowers to be one of the more exciting qualities of the character.

“What’s so exciting about Daredevil to us is that he’s ground level, which means no superpowers, which means every hit actually hurts, every fall could kill you,” Benson explained. “Breaking someone’s arm is about as severe in this show as it would be in real life.”

Marketing for Daredevil: Born Again has not shied away from showing some of the bone-crunching fight scenes, although there is seemingly one stunt that is being saved for the show itself. Cox recalled one stunt to EW that involved a stunt performer, wearing a back pad for cushioning, who gets “knocked out” at the top of the stairs, and then must fall backwards with no pulleys or ropes.

“Every time he did it, I was like, ‘Ah!’” Cox recalled. “It was so brutal.”

Daredevil: Born Again will be just as violent as the Netflix show

Daredevil: Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane recently promised fans that the Disney+ continuation will be just as violent as the Netflix series.

“The level of violence is way up there for a Marvel/Disney show,” he shared earlier this month. “I don’t think there’s anything else even in the ballpark. There’s a moment in this that is just absolutely batshit, and way past anything Netflix ever did.”

Daredevil: Born Again premieres on Disney+ on March 4 as part of Phase 5 of the MCU.
