Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 just gave us one of the shocking episodes of the season. The ending of Episode 4 may have sealed Vanessa Fisk’s fate in the MCU. Ayelet Zurer‘s character was clearly uncomfortable with another character for the most part of this season.
Wilson Bethel’s Bullseye has been waiting a long time for this one. Ever since Vanessa turned him into a pawn and pushed him to murder Foggy Nelson, Benjamin Poindexter has been carrying a grudge. He finally acted upon it at Fogwell’s Gym. The setting couldn’t be more theatrical.

Bullseye’s attack occurred during a charity boxing match in which Mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) stepped into the ring against Matterhorn. In the episode’s closing moments, Poindexter hurls a heavy glass statue straight at Vanessa.
Fisk blocks the worst of the impact with his championship belt, but the expert marksman was counting on it. A shard of shattered glass struck Vanessa on the side of her head. The episode cuts to black as Vanessa lies in a growing pool of her own blood.
Is There a Chance Vanessa Survived Bullseye’s Attack?
Vanessa Fisk was still breathing in that final shot. Barely, but breathing. As far as deaths in Hollywood go, Vanessa still has a chance since we didn’t see her die. However, the more realistic answer about her fate is grim.
A head wound of that severity makes it highly doubtful that Vanessa would survive Bullseye’s attack. Interestingly, Vanessa’s arc in Marvel Comics may offer writers a way to navigate this head injury without killing her off.
In Frank Miller’s Daredevil: Love and War, Vanessa is introduced as an amnesiac when she first meets Wilson Fisk. If the show were to magically revive her after the head injury, the writers could add her memory loss into the story as a sly nod to that comic storyline.
In another much darker storyline, Vanessa was resurrected from death by The Hand to kill her husband. However, Daredevil: Born Again is a more grounded show, and resurrecting characters magically would feel like a betrayal of its tone.
On the other hand, the more compelling narrative direction is the one staring us in the face. Vanessa actually dies, and Fisk completely comes undone. Losing the one person who kept him tethered to any shred of humanity could trigger his explosive anger and unleash his fury upon his enemies.
What Did the Daredevil: Born Again Team Say About Her Fate?

Ayelet Zurer has been part of the Daredevil franchise for nearly 11 years, so any potential exit for Vanessa is a massive deal. The Daredevil: Born Again team has already commented on the potential death of this major character. During an interview with ScreenRant, Vincent D’Onofrio seemingly confirmed the worst. He shared:
It’s going to add in a major way to his rage. And the more they do and the resistance to topple my regime, I think the more he wants to get rid of all of them, every one of them.
He further shared that the consequences of her “death” would also extend into Season 3 storyline. He shared, “And just so you know, the effects, that doesn’t end at the end of this season. The repercussions of her death and what it’s done to him begins the third season.”
While it is close to a confirmation about Vanessa’s fate, executive producer Sana Amanat left a sliver of doubt when asked about the character’s fate. She responded with a cryptic “Or is it?”
Showrunner Dario Scardapane also seemingly teased the character’s death, sharing, “There’s no checks and balances now. What humanized this lonely, scary man, at least in one way, isn’t there anymore. So all bets are off. The gloves are off.” However, it also meant that even if Vanessa somehow clings to life, the Fisk we knew is already gone.
How Did Vanessa Die in the Marvel Comics?

For comic readers, Vanessa’s exit on the page is far less dramatic than a shard of glass to the skull. In Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev’s legendary Daredevil run (Issues #16 – #81), Vanessa embarks on a vengeance-fueled mission to destroy everyone who ever moved against her husband.
In the process, she murders her own son, Richard Fisk, in cold blood for betraying the family. The psychological toll of that act spirals her already fragile health into a terminal illness, and she eventually dies from it.
After she is resurrected by the Hand (mentioned earlier), Fisk himself kills her when he realizes the woman standing in front of him is a soulless assassin that the dark ninja group created.
We’ll have to hold our breath until Season 2, Episode 5, for a definitive answer on Vanessa’s death. But whether Vanessa survives with lasting damage or succumbs to her injury, one thing feels locked in. Wilson Fisk is about to go on a rampage that this city won’t forget. The gloves are very much off.
