Spoiler Alert !!!This article contains spoilers for Chainsaw Man manga.

Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man has reached an unexpected conclusion point. Shonen Jump recently announced that Part 2 of the manga will end with Chapter 232. This scheduling update arrived immediately after Chapter 231, which has caused confusion for everyone.

In the latest chapter, Chainsaw Man’s entire existence is erased, which makes us wonder what will happen to Denji now. The chapter ended with a panel of the shack where Denji used to live; however, no explanation was provided as to whether it’s the past or the present. Let’s discuss the possible future of Denji and others.

Chapter 231, titled “Goodbye, Pochita,” begins immediately after Denji is eaten by an insect Devil. Instead of dying, Denji awakens in a peaceful, dream-like place. In the previous chapter, we hoped that Denji would have a reunion with Power.

But instead, he finds Pochita. And this interaction was not a touching reunion that it could’ve been. Rather, Pochita decides to end the cycle by eating his own heart.

The fundamental ability of the Chainsaw Devil is to completely erase the existence of any Devil it eats. By consuming his own heart, Pochita essentially erases himself, and by extension, the concept of Chainsaw Man, from reality.

The rules of the Chainsaw Man world dictate that erasing a concept alters history so that the concept never existed. Pochita was a big part of Denji’s life, as they practically formed a contract.

A reality where Pochita was never born changes Denji’s entire past and the foundation of the manga’s lore. This significance is shown perfectly by the final panel of the chapter, with Pochita gone, we are back to where Denji used to live, a shack.

Without Pochita, Denji would never have formed their initial contract. This means Denji might never have become a Devil Hunter or met crucial figures like Aki Hayakawa, Power, or Makima. In fact, if we look back at his life, he may soon just die of the same disease that killed his mother.

Furthermore, if Chainsaw Man never existed, it remains unclear whether the devils that Chainsaw Man ate will suddenly return to existence or if the timeline will account for their absence differently.

Is This Going to Be the End of Chainsaw Man Manga?

Shonen Jump officially announced that Chainsaw Man Part 2 will conclude with Chapter 232. The sudden announcement that came without any buildup has generated widespread confusion among the fans.

Reactions across Reddit highlight this confusion quite well. Discussions also pointed out the sudden drop in page counts and perceived changes in artwork quality over the past few months. Some readers are even assuming that Fujimoto is suffering from creator fatigue, prompting an expedited end to the serialization.

On the other hand, a segment of the fans believes this sudden reset is a choice for further story. Because Pochita initiated a universe reset, some readers theorize that Chapter 232 will not serve as the absolute end of the manga, but rather as a transition point.

It is possible that the final chapter of Part 2 will establish the foundation for a potential Part 3, taking place entirely within the newly created timeline. Perhaps Denji himself will stop being the main character, and we will switch our focus entirely to Asa. Regardless of long-term plans, Chapter 232 carries immense pain.
