Bridgerton Season 4 Part 2 arrived amid high expectations from fans, and, well, it did not disappoint. Benedict and Sophie finally had their picture-perfect fairytale ending, but was it easy? Well, not in the least.
Spoiler Alert !!!Spoiler Alert for Bridgerton Season 4 Part 2!
Part 2 of the season begins with Benedict chasing Sophie and trying to talk to her. But she turns him down, asking him if he would have ‘ruined’ her had she been of noble birth. Realising they can never live happily outside society, they part ways as unmarried people. But it isn’t until John’s death that Violet Bridgerton, the Dowager Viscountess Bridgerton, realises how cruel it would be for her son to lose his one and only love.
She gives her blessing and her grandmother’s ring for Benedict to propose. But the former rake misses Sophie by a few seconds, as she is arrested for Aramainta Gun, her stepmother. She is about to be sentenced, since her word means less than the Dowager Lady Penwood, but then Benedict and Violet showed up.
They found out the matter from Hazel, who was informed by Alfie and Varley (who snitched about Sophie in the first place but then later felt sad). Benedict at once declares that Sophie cannot be sentenced without a fair trial, stating:
Sir! I must ask you to release this woman at once.
Then, he introduces himself while Violet states that she can attest to Sophie’s character. While the judge tries to reason with Araminta to settle the matter, since Violet is willing to pay for the stolen shoe clips, Araminta refuses. The judge gives them a week to arrange a defence and lets Sophie go on bail, on the condition that she will remain with the Bridgertons. He also advises them to settle this outside of court.
Yet, Araminta, in her spite, refuses again and states she will take this matter to court. They then take Sophie home.
How Did Mrs. Mondrich Help Benedict and Sophie?

After taking Sophie to the Bridgerton house, she finally opens up to Benedict about why she hid that she was the Lady in Silver and her true parentage. When she reveals that she is the illegitimate daughter of the Late Earl of Penwood and that he left her nothing in his will, Benedict grows suspicious. He asks her why she would take Araminta’s word that her father left her nothing.
So Sophie sneaks into the Penwood house, with the help of Eloise (Cressida is the new Lady Penwood), to look for her father’s will. While she is doing so, Mrs. Mondrich finds out about Sophie and Benedict.
Earlier at Hyacinth’s recital, she had heard about Benedict’s declaration of love. Then, later in the Queen’s court, she pieces all of it together when Lady Danbury tries to reason with the Queen in order to seek her blessing. But when it fails, Mrs. Mondrich takes matters into her own hands to help Benedict as well as win the Queen’s favor as her Ladies-in-waiting.
She at once rushes to her husband and declares she wants to help the maid. Then she visits Benedict and Violet with another offer. As per Mrs. Mondrich’s plan, they would sneak Sophie into the Queen’s ball. There, she will have Araminta and Bridgertons meet in private and try to negotiate.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Mondrich goes to get the Queen. While Her Majesty declines to accompany her, she appeals again, stating all the good qualities of the Queen and how she herself was headstrong enough never to be bothered by what people thought of her. Alice also goes on to state that the Queen, who relishes a bit of gossip, is missing the best gossip.
Why is Araminta Gun Forced to Accept Violet’s Demands?

When Sophie goes back to the Penwood house, she finds her father’s will. The will clearly states that Araminta was getting an extra pound for the years she decided to keep Sophie. Moreover, the late Earl of Penwood had left an equal dowry for Sophie, Rosamund, and Posy.
Instead, Araminta had used her dowry for Rosamund to entice Lord Stotter to marry her. Once Sophie, Benedict, and Violet find this out, they use this to blackmail Araminta instead.
Violet and Benedict argue that Araminta must give back Sophie’s dowry and that she must acknowledge in public that Sophie is a distant relative of the late Lord Penwood. If Araminta fails to do so, they would have the authorities look into the case and send her to prison for embezzlement, and for being a thief and a liar.
Knowing fully well about the power the Bridgertons hold, Araminta is forced to accept the demands. While she could have chosen to ruin Sophie, she would have ruined herself as well. This would have ruined her daughters’ prospects; thus, despite her ego and hate, she is forced to yield to their demands.
Does Queen Charlotte Accept Sophie as Benedict’s Wife?

When the Queen crashes their little meet-up in the palace, Violet promptly introduces Sophie as Sophie Gun, stating that she is the daughter of a cousin of Lord Penwood. The Dowager Viscountess Bridgerton further goes on to state that Sophie has only just come to town, and Araminta is forced to accept it all.
The Queen at once realizes that the story about her being a lady is a fabrication, a white lie, yet she chooses to accept it, given how amusing the tale is. She asks Sophie if all of it is true. Once she declares that she is by birth and by education a daughter of Penwood house, the Queen, in a shocker, declares that she would have made a wonderful diamond.
Sophie’s fake birth story amuses the Queen, and even though she can’t help but laugh out loud, her acceptance allows Sophie and Benedict to wed legitimately. Moreover, the Queen’s love for gossip and drama is not only a win-win situation for the couple but also for Mrs. Mondrich, who at last manages to impress the Queen.
What Happens to Araminta Gun and Her Daughters?
While Benedict proposes to Sophie at the Queen’s ball and they have a rather pleasant time, things are not so good for Araminta. She has her pride injured as well as her spiteful plan to have Sophie jailed, which fails miserably. Moreover, it also affects Rosamund and her betrothal to Lord Stotter.
Lord Stotter, who is infamous for hunting fortunes, breaks the engagement upon learning that Rosamund’s dowry is no longer going to be 36,000 pounds. Instead, it is back to 18,000 as Araminta is forced to give Sophie her rightful share. While the mother-daughter are upset, Posy seems to have found a love match.
With the help of Eloise’s advice to not let her mother dictate the matters of her heart, she finally approaches Lord Barnaby. Lord Barnaby is quite smitten by her, and they dance together at the Queen’s ball. Later, during Benedict and Sophie’s wedding at My Cottage, Posy attends with Lord Barnaby.
While Araminta is forced to retreat to the countryside after the end of the season, as per the terms of their agreement, it is not known whether Posy is married. But since she attended with Lord Barnaby, it might be that they are married as well.
