Bridgerton Season 4 is arriving soon, this January. Fans have been waiting to see if Kate (Simone Ashley) and Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) finally welcome their first child. The answer is a little nuanced. In Julia Quinn’s books, their firstborn son, Edmund, arrives shortly after their wedding.
In the Netflix series, Season 3 left the couple traveling to India for Kate’s delivery, so viewers didn’t witness the birth. They welcomed a baby a year after their wedding. It means by Season 4, Kate and Anthony are already parents, and their story revolves around their lives as Viscount and Viscountess Bridgerton.
According to the books, they go on to have four children: Edmund, Miles, Charlotte, and Mary. Their first son, Edmund, was born in 1815, and their lastborn, Mary, was born between 1829 and 1830 (via Fandom).

After Season 3’s brief appearances, audiences were left wondering if Kate and Anthony would reprise their roles in Season 4. The couple spent most of the season away from London, enjoying an extended honeymoon and preparing for their first child. Anthony suggested traveling to India so Kate could give birth in her home country, which put them mostly off-screen.
Based on travel timelines, the trip to India, the birth of the baby, and the return voyage would likely take around nine months to a year, putting them back in England in time for the start of Season 4’s run. As of now, Kate and Anthony are expected to return. Netflix has also listed their names as returning cast, although their screentime will likely be less.
Both actors have expressed excitement about exploring their characters’ new chapter as parents. Bailey even went as far as to confirm that he doesn’t plan on stepping out of Anthony Bridgerton’s shoes anytime soon. In The Hollywood Reporter interview, he said,
I look forward to, in another however many years, when we’ve done the eighth season to sit around and be like, ‘Look what we all did together.‘
In an interview with Screen Rant for her 2025 rom-com Picture This, Ashley addresses how much they’ve filmed,
It’s been so wonderful. We filmed a couple of times now, and I’m just so excited for the world to see everything that Yerin [Ha] and Luke [Thompson] have been up to. They’re leading the season, and they’ve been working so, so hard. Every time I come back, I get to see little glimpses of everything they’re up to, and I’m excited for everyone to see the glimpse of Kate and Anthony’s journey carrying on together.
The series loosely adapted Julia Quinn’s novels. Season 4 picks up after their India trip, meaning the couple’s firstborn may already be part of their story when the new season begins. Moreover, the season is focusing on Luke-Sophie’s Chindrella-esque romance. This explains their short screentime in season 4.
What to Expect From Bridgerton Season 4?
Season 4 focuses on several main storylines while continuing to explore the Bridgerton family. The new leading couple is Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Beck (Yerin Ha). Their story is a Cinderella-like romance, featuring a love across social classes and challenges posed by a wicked stepmother figure, Araminta Gun.
Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington are now married. They have welcomed their first child, a boy named Elliot Featherington. The promotional images also confirmed the news of their firstborn. Season 4 will explore their life as newlyweds and parents, as well as Penelope’s new relationship with Queen Charlotte, who now consults her on ton gossip.
Penelope will continue the role of Lady Whistledown. While the ton knows her identity, the gossip column remains central to the show. Overall, Season 4, releasing on January 31, promises a mix of romance and family drama with the Bridgerton siblings’ stories.
