Bridgerton Season 2 was focused on the slow-burn romance between Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley). However, when it began, Viscount Anthony had made the decision that it was time to settle down and find a wife. When he sets his sights on Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran), the Queen-declared diamond of the season, Anthony is convinced she is the perfect match.
What he didn’t anticipate was the immediate attraction he felt for Edwina’s older, headstrong sister, Kate. Kate was determined to ensure her sister secured a socially advantageous match. While Anthony and Kate started as enemies, Kate also grew her own feelings for Anthony.
While viewers could clearly see the attraction building between them, Edwina remained completely unaware. She was focused on her engagement with Anthony and her dream of marrying the perfect match. From Aubrey Hall to the wedding day, Edwina missed countless signs of the flirtation and emotional intimacy between Anthony and Kate. Here is a detailed look at every moment Edwina failed to notice the chemistry that everyone else could see in the Netflix show.
1. The Pall-Mall at Aubrey Hall

Edwina and her family were invited to Aubrey Hall by the Bridgertons because of Anthony and Edwina’s relationship. Kate jumped into a game of pall-mall with the Bridgerton siblings. Anthony joined in, and teasing and bantering continued as they played. Even Anthony couldn’t say anything when Kate took his mallet, even when his siblings dared not touch it.
Kate’s skill amused Anthony and everyone; he clearly enjoyed her presence. Edwina was struggling with the game and eventually left to avoid further embarrassment. Meanwhile, Anthony and Kate knock each other’s balls around, end up chasing each other into the woods, and nearly kiss in the mud. It was a huge early indicator that their relationship is something else, but Edwina couldn’t notice it.
2. Edwina Sent Kate Off for Hunting with Anthony

Edwina sends Kate off to spend time with Anthony so they can bond, of course, platonically. But what she doesn’t expect is the intense spark between them. Anthony taught Kate how to shoot with the gun she was unfamiliar with. Anthony is standing close, adjusting Kate’s posture, and the heat of the moment. If anyone else watched that scene, they’d go “no wonder they’re attracted.”
Edwina, on the other hand, was focused on tradition and propriety. She told Daphne that she sent Kate hunting with Anthony so they could bond. Even Daphne was sceptical about it.
3. The Dance at Aubrey Hall Ball

Until this point, Edwina had thought she would be engaged. She told Kate they were not engaged because Anthony and Kate hate each other. She requested Kate to help her get engaged. In the evening ball, Edwina forced Kate to dance with him at Aubrey Hall. But things turn out differently.
The lingering glances and body language between Kate and Anthony were evident to everyone else, but not to Edwina. However, during the dance, Kate mentioned she planned to return to India after the wedding. Anthony was upset at the thought of losing her. He marched towards his study, and Kate followed. Their arguments almost turned into a kiss. Anthony asked if she genuinely cared for him, but Daphne walked in before anything could happen. The moment made it clear that Anthony loved Kate, but Edwina was completely dark about it.
4. The Engagement Moment

At the end of episode 4, when the Sharmas were leaving for London, Kate was ready to confess to Edwina her true feelings for Anthony after Lady Danbury’s encouragement. However, Anthony interrupted her and proposed to Edwina. Edwina was so happy that she forgot what her sister was about to say.
The next day, when they met Queen Charlotte, Anthony expressed his desire to have the wedding in the countryside, perhaps at Aubrey Hall. However, the Queen declined and offered to host the wedding herself. When Edwina told Kate that her fairy tale was coming true, Kate was shaken by her own feelings for Anthony and almost dropped the teacup she was holding. Lady Danbury even noticed Kate’s reaction, but Edwina remained elated about the engagement.
5. Anthony Helps Kate Try Edwina’s Engagement Ring

Despite his feelings for Kate, Anthony proposed to Edwina out of his sense of responsibility. But back in London, he and Kate shared another fateful moment. The jeweler insisted Kate try on the Bridgerton betrothal ring to check the fit. Talk about a classic romantic trope.
The ring fit Kate perfectly, as if made for her. Anthony’s hand lingered on hers; his longing was obvious. But the ring got stuck. Edwina arrived at this very moment, and the situation only got even more awkward.
6. Anthony’s Jealousy Towards Mr. Dorset Meeting Kate

In episode 5, during the alfresco party hosted by the Bridgertons to celebrate Edwina and Anthony’s engagement, Mr. Dorset asked Kate for a walk while she was talking with Lady Danbury. Edwina told Anthony and Lady Violet that Kate and Mr. Dorset seemed like a perfect match; perhaps he could make Kate stay in London. This irritated Anthony, who said that they barely knew each other. He was especially furious when he saw Kate take a boat ride with Mr. Dorset.
When they arrived, he stormed over to intervene, offering Kate his hand to help her out of the boat. Their eye contact was obvious, but the moment their hands touch, Anthony trips over a dog, pulling Dorset into the lake as well. While Edwina watches in surprise when Anthony emerges dripping and disheveled, Kate tells her it is inappropriate to watch. However, Bridgerton had no right to put the thirst trap to ooze the tension in this scene. Though Edwina noticed Kate getting a good eyeful as Anthony hauled himself out of the water, she didn’t have any idea about their future.
7. The Pre-wedding Ritual

During the pre-wedding Haldi ceremony, Edwina expressed some uncertainty about Anthony’s feelings. She noted he didn’t look at her enough. Kate reassured her that love was more than looks. She asked Kate if they could ask Anthony to join, but Kate said they have their own traditions to follow. That’s the subtle signs of Kate’s care that went unnoticed many times.
Edwin was focused on securing her future as a Viscountess, to see Anthony’s heart was increasingly elsewhere.
8. The Bangle Scene at the Wedding

Edwina ultimately realized the truth at the altar. Kate lent Edwina her mother’s wedding bangles, but she refused to wear them because they were always meant for her. During the ceremony, Edwina noticed Anthony’s intense gaze fixed on Kate. When one bangle slipped from Kate’s wrist, Anthony rushed to return it. The brief moment of glance said everything.
This is the moment Edwina finally sensed something was amiss. She realized the truth that had been obvious to viewers all along. She abandoned the ceremony and ultimately called off the wedding.
Throughout Season 2, Edwina’s desire for a perfect match and innocence blinded her to the obvious chemistry. Her trust in Anthony and her own expectations meant she misread his interactions with Kate again and again. Meanwhile, viewers enjoyed watching Anthony and Kate’s slow-building romance, full of spark.
