Amid reports that Marvel Studios has pushed back the production start date for Avengers: Secret Wars, a new filming window has been revealed for the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.
When will Avengers: Secret Wars begin filming?
Avengers: Secret Wars was originally expected to begin filming in mid-2026, with April having been floated near the end of 2025 as the exact start month. However, scooper Daniel Richtman is now reporting on his Patreon that filming won’t begin on Secret Wars until August.
When this August 2026 production start date was first revealed yesterday, some fans expressed worry over the shortened window between Secret Wars’ production and release. With filming expected to last roughly six months, meaning a possible January 2027 wrap, Secret Wars would have less than a year in post-production before its December 2027 theatrical release.
Thankfully, it seems that Marvel Studios is aware of the condensed timeline and has made adjustments to its production schedule to ensure that Avengers: Secret Wars doesn’t suffer as a result of the delayed start date. According to scooper MAJESTIC_ucm on X, some early filming on Secret Wars might take place during the Avengers: Doomsday reshoots in April.
“Well, what I’m hearing is that in April, besides reshoots for [Doomsday], they’re preparing principal photography for both projects, and that they’re privately filming material for [Secret Wars],” the scooper wrote, explaining that Marvel was likely “shooting some scenes in specific locations while the talent needed for one or both films is in the same place.”

MAJESTIC_ucm also explained why the filming delay wasn’t as big a deal as some fans were making it out to be, revealing that Marvel is “already working on visual effects for Avengers: Secret Wars before filming much, apart from the material they already shot during the production of Avengers: Doomsday. They have plenty of time and probably a clearer structure for the next film.”
Lastly, the scooper pushed back at Richtman’s claim that Secret Wars wouldn’t begin production until August, instead reporting that the delay is until June.
