Charlize Theron is back in the action realm with Apex. After her sequel to The Old Guard fell flat among critics and viewers, the actor, whose pivot to action has been impeccable over the years, aims to shine in this new survival horror from Netflix. Set in the Australian wilderness, the story follows Theron’s Sasha, a grieving woman who seeks solace in the wilderness. Speaking of the movie, director Baltasar Kormákur previously recalled (via Netflix):
I couldn’t be more excited. Working in the rugged, beautiful terrains of Australia with three of the world’s most talented, dedicated actors in Charlize Theron, Taron Egerton, and Eric Bana is such a joy — even as I put them through the [ringer] in this unique survivor story.
The premise for the movie doesn’t aim to upend the genre, and it’s pretty reminiscent of other run-of-the-mill survivor action thrillers. Hopefully, this will offer something fresh and exciting.

Yes, in fact, Netflix has rolled out multiple trailers, including a teaser and a new trailer, which sees Theron’s Sasha receiving directions from Egerton’s hunter for the Wandarra National Park.
Unbeknownst to her, the latter ends up following Sasha to the secluded wilderness and opts to give her a head start before commencing the chase for this fast-paced survival thriller.
When will Apex Premiere?

With no theatrical window in the cards, Apex will arrive directly on Netflix this April. The survivor thriller is slated to premiere on April 24. Even though the streamer has been warming up to the prospect of theatrical releases in recent months, the Theron-led movie won’t be receiving this treatment. Whether they hold a red carpet event ahead of its global premiere remains to be seen.

Although it’s always good to see Theron back in action, it’ll be interesting to see how this movie is received, especially after her last major Netflix title failed to make any major splash.
