One Piece is now the top title on Netflix as it gained 37.8 million views in less than two weeks. The live adaptation of the Japanese manga series is in the Top 10 in 93 countries and debuted at No. 1 in 46 countries. Even five weeks after its release, it is still in the weekly Top 10 and has piled up 57.8 million views to date.
Netflix’s One Piece
People showed their affection towards this live adaptation because first of all it was most anticipated. Secondly, its story largely follows the original anime’s storyline (obviously with some condensation and rearrangement). The characters, including Luffy, Nami, Zoro, Sanji, and Usopp, are very similar to the original series, and their adventures and motivations — also remain close, too.
But the good news is, that fans can expect another season of their favorite series. Yes right. Matt Owens, the series writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner said that he couldn’t comment on the quick renewal of Season 2 because he was a part of the WGA strike. But it is now over.

One Piece Live Adaptation’s Season 2 Script is in the Works
In an interview with Deadline, Matt Owens was asked “What can you tease about how that sets up the second season?”

He revealed that the writing for One Piece Season 2 has resumed after the end of the WGA strike. The writers’ room has reopened, and progress is being made on the writing process. As Owens said:
“So there are not actually any scripts for the season that are done. It’s still going to take some time. And of course, now that the show has come out, there are things to look at and lessons to learn as we move forward. We’ve got some outlines, and we have a really solid plan that we had communication with Oda about. Part of my trip in April was to talk to him about some of the early ideas that we had, talking to him about things that I want to include to just make sure that our ideas are in line with what he thinks.”
The point here to note is that after his remarks it’s clear that One Piece’s Season 2 is in the works. Even though he said that any of the script isn’t ready yet —it was mainly because of the (now ended) WGA strike. But looks like it won’t take much time to conclude now.

When to Expect the Production and Scheduling for One Piece’s Season 2?
The Deadline interview emphasized the fact that the production and scheduling for One Piece Season 2 cannot be discussed yet due to the ongoing actors’ strike. But they did ask for the confirmation of Owens if filming should ideally begin in early 2024 to avoid the harsh South African winter (considering weather factors). This, the writer went on to say:
“Those are conversations that are still happening. You’re right, weather is something we have to deal with. South African winter is very windy, very wet, so we really have to plan. We spend a lot of time outside, we spend a lot of time in sunny blue skies, so a lot of our shooting schedule is built around the weather; taking a look at how much time are we spending inside in particular episodes, where can we put that in the schedule so that we’re not fighting the weather?”
When asked if there’s any overarching theme for Season 2, he said that the major theme that they’re “working with in Season 2 is the challenge of leadership.”
One Piece – Season 2 Hints in Season 1
Owens added that in live-adaptation Season 2 — from Luffy’s perspective, he now has his crew, and they are embarking on their journey into the Grand Line — which comes with a lot of responsibilities.
So he remarked that the theme of challenge and leadership will play a major role in the upcoming season. It will also tie into the stories and characters that will be introduced, which he didn’t reveal just yet.
