Adekunle Gold expands 6th album with ‘Fuji Xtra’

Spread the love

Adekunle Gold has officially extended his boundaries with the release of Fuji Xtra, a five-track deluxe expansion of his highly acclaimed sixth studio album, Fuji. Released in the early hours of tody, the project is a deeper dive into what AG calls “the sound of Lagos.” Leaning into the percussive rhythms and call-and-response structures of traditional Fuji and Apala, Adekunle Gold continues to redefine himself not just as a pop star, but as a cultural archivist.

The standout moment of the project is undoubtedly Formation, which marks the first-ever formal collaboration between Adekunle Gold and his former label boss, Olamide. Despite their long history, the timing was never quite right until now. The track is a serious blend of street-rooted Yoruba expression and regular Afrobeats. Other notable features include Blue Fire with Simi, which brings a familiar melodic warmth, and Shake Shake with the rising TML Vibez, injecting a youthful, high-energy pulse into the project.

Lyrically, Fuji Xtra explores themes of wisdom, success, and the celebration of life (faaji). On solo tracks like I Got Wiser On My Own, Gold reflects on his decade-long journey in the industry with a sense of clarity and maturity. The production across the five new tracks is lush and cinematic, further bridging the gap between indigenous heritage and global pop appeal.

To accompany the release, Adekunle Gold has teased a live orchestral experience built around the project’s unique sound. This move signals his intent to elevate Fuji music to the world’s most prestigious stages. Fuji Xtra is a bold statement that the “AG Baby” era is evolving into a more refined, artistically daring phase.
