Spoiler Alert !!!Spoiler Warning for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: Episode 4 & George R.R. Martin’s The Hedge Knight
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms finally brought back Daeron Targaryen in Episode 4, and his confrontation scene with Ser Duncan the Tall held so many clues and ominous warnings to the looming fate of both the hedge knight and House Targaryen.
In “Seven”, Daeron apologized to Dunk for accusing him of kidnapping Egg, promising that he would intentionally fall from his horse during the trial. Then, he told the knight about his prophetic dream, something that he already referenced in the first episode.
In his dream, he saw Dunk alongside a fire and a dead dragon. The dragon fell on top of him, but the knight was alive, and the beast was dead. Dunk asked if he killed it, but Daeron couldn’t confirm.
What Daeron’s Ominous Dream Could Mean Based on GRRM’s Novella

The vision is clearly a metaphor for what is to come to House Targaryen. In George R.R. Martin‘s The Hedge Knight, Dunk meets Daeron at an inn, who tells him to stay away after he saw him in his dream. At the time, it could be interpreted that the prince was afraid the knight would harm him.
But as the story unfolded and the Trial of Seven took place, it became clearer what the vision could mean. When all seemed lost, Prince Baelor came in riding atop his horse and declared he would fight alongside Dunk.
At the end of the trial, Aerion loses and yields, but the hedge knight was badly hurt. He fell and saw Prince Baelor standing over him, but the latter was mortally wounded after receiving a blow to the head. He then falls on top of Dunk, dead.
This is the most possible demonstration of Daeron’s dream. Prince Baelor is the dragon that fell on top of Dunk, and its large wings that can cover the entirety of the meadow must refer to his title as the heir to the Iron Throne.
Dunk’s Fate in the Show Can Take a Turn for the Worse: Here’s How
Prince Baelor’s death sets things in motion for House Targaryen. With him gone, the succession is rearranged. We also know that two immediate heirs will die during the Great Spring Sickness, and it will subsequently clear the way for Egg to become the king. Dunk will become Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, too.
But what if the show decided to give fans a shocking twist at the end and Dunk actually kills Aerion? Remember, he asked Daeron if he killed the dragon. Most certainly, it will not end well for him. Prince Maekar would not let this slide, and Dunk might be put to death for killing the prince of the blood.
The show can always take creative liberty, but it might also go against Martin’s vision. At this point, Dunk’s fate is still hanging by a thread.
