Elden Ring Nightreign is currently the most anticipated title that FromSoftware is developing. The game was first announced at the Game Awards of 2024 and is set to release on May 30 of this year. The game is taking a different approach from its usual single-player RPG playstyle by integrating a multiplayer element to and fans are eager to find out what new characters will be introduced in the game.
Nightreign will integrate a “choose your hero” sort of element, where players will be able to choose a character they can play as. One of those characters is Wylder, who is also unofficially known as John Nightreign. Let’s find out more about him.
Wylder is Elden Ring Nightreign’s anchor point
Elden Ring Nightreign is a cooperative spin-off of the critically acclaimed 2022 game, Elden Ring. Although the game has a single-player mode, it is supposed to be played cooperatively by teams of three players. The game takes place in the procedurally generated version of Limgrave, known as Limveld, where players can choose different characters to play as, who are called Nightfarers.
One of those characters is Wylder, and he is easily one of the coolest characters in the entire Soulsborne genre. Wylder is a generalist who is designed for an all-rounder performance and can fulfill different roles. He offers a balanced defense, offense, and speed stat that is better for beginners. While he is one of the easiest characters to play, mastering him is a different story because of his loadout.
Wylder is armed with a greatsword, a buckler, and a wrist-mounted crossbow. His skills include a passive ability known as Sixth Sense, which seems like it negates all physical damage for one hit. There is also the Onslaught Stake, which uses the wrist-mounted crossbow to shoot an explosive shot.

However, Wylder’s coolest element is his grappling hook, which can also be shot out of his crossbow. The grappling hook can be used for traversal, latching onto enemies, and closing the distance between them.
Aside from being cool with his plethora of weapons and skills, Wylder also has a great drip. He rocks a blue tunic adorned with arcane sigils over sleek medium armour. He also wears a winged helm similar to Malenia’s, except that, unlike Batman, Wylder’s mouth and chin are protected.

Wylder’s addition in Elden Ring Nightreign is not just an introduction of a new character in the game, but it marks a shift in how FromSoftware is expanding the entire universe of the Lands Between. Although being beginner-friendly and fairly balanced, Wylder is still considered a complex who will provide a rewarding experience for veteran players.

His toolkit makes him adaptable in every scenario, and these new mechanics not only reflect FromSoftware’s signature combat depth but also suggest that Nightreign will offer a new layer of tactical team-based gameplay.
This communal take on the Soulsborne formula is the vital part and core vision behind making Nightreign a fresh game. With the game launching soon, it won’t be like stepping into another world beautifully crafted by FromSoftware; this time, we as players will be shaping it together, one battle at a time.
