While some of those anime became superhits around the world, others have gained loyal fans over the years. Regardless of genre, all of these series managed to leave their mark on viewers. So here is a list of the top 10 greatest Adult Swim anime, ranked from 10 to 1.
10. Housing Complex C Turns a Quiet Neighborhood Into a Nightmare

Don’t let the peaceful setting fool you. Housing Complex C starts with ordinary neighborhood life before slowly filling every episode with strange disappearances, unsettling dreams, and mysterious visitors. By the time Episode 4 reveals Kimi Shirokado’s true connection to an ancient cosmic force, the series completely changes from a simple mystery into full-blown cosmic horror.
Its biggest weakness is also the reason it opens this list. Four episodes simply aren’t enough to explore its fascinating ideas as deeply as the anime ranked above it. Even so, the eerie atmosphere never lets up, and Adult Swim deserves credit for bringing such an unusual horror series to a wider audience.
9. IGPX: Immortal Grand Prix Makes Mecha Racing Fun

Long before the popularity of modern battle royales, IGPX: Immortal Grand Prix proved there is nothing boring about mech racing in the right setting. Season one follows the rookie underdogs of Team Satomi as they suddenly enter the big leagues of the IG-1 championship. Each high-speed collision teaches their hotshot forward, Takeshi Jin, that raw individual skill means nothing without absolute team collaboration. Some of these championship matches remain surprisingly tense even today.
Even though the show never really gained the same kind of popularity that many other Adult Swim shows achieved, that is precisely why IGPX is an overlooked treasure. It was an innovative combination of sports anime and racing that very few other shows have been able to replicate.
8. Uzumaki Is a Horror Story You Can’t Forget

Junji Ito‘s stories have always been difficult to adapt, which is why Uzumaki carried enormous expectations. Thankfully, the anime captures the manga’s disturbing mood from Episode 1, where Shuichi first notices the town’s growing obsession with spirals. Later episodes faithfully recreate unforgettable chapters like “The Snail” and “The Mosquitoes,” showing just how terrifying an ordinary shape can become.
Faithfulness alone doesn’t guarantee a higher ranking, but the sheer atmospheric dread earns Uzumaki a comfortable place in 8th position on this list. While notorious production and pacing issues in the later episodes stop it from challenging the absolute top tier, few horror series leave viewers with such a lasting feeling of unease.
7. Rooster Fighter Turns a Chicken Into a True Hero

It is hard not to laugh when someone tells you the world’s greatest hero is a rooster. Then Rooster Fighter starts, and suddenly Keiji is battling towering Kiju monsters with the determination of a seasoned shonen protagonist. As his backstory slowly unfolds, the comedy gives way to genuine emotion, making his mission feel surprisingly meaningful.
That emotional balance is what separates Rooster Fighter from being just another internet joke. Adult Swim has always celebrated weird and unpredictable anime, but this one succeeds because it fully commits to its bizarre premise instead of treating it like a parody. Not every experiment works this well.
6. Lazarus Brings a Fresh Sci-Fi Story to Adult Swim

Shinichiro Watanabe has built a reputation for making stylish sci-fi, and Lazarus continues that tradition. The story starts with Dr. Skinner announcing that Hapna, the miracle drug trusted around the world, will soon kill everyone who has taken it. That shocking reveal forces escaped convict Axel Gilberto to join the specialized Lazarus task force in a high-stakes race against time, with every mission uncovering another piece of Skinner’s carefully planned mystery.
As long as the series remains true to its promising foundation, there should be no problem reaching greater heights in the future. As of now, however, the sixth place looks fitting. Lazarus has only just begun its legacy, and while it’s an instant thrill ride, its long-term impact is still competing with the historic classics anchoring the top half of this list.
5. Blue Exorcist Gave Fans a New Demon Hero

Rin Okumura stands out for having an exceptional character arc among the recent supernatural anime. His life turns around in the early episodes after finding out that he is the son of Satan, but the uniqueness of Blue Exorcist lies in Rin refusing to let his lineage define him. That struggle reaches another level during the Kyoto Saga, while the Illuminati Saga pushes both Rin and Yukio into some of their most emotional conflicts.
Unlike most action-based anime, which focus solely on action, Blue Exorcist emphasizes family, trust, and self-acceptance. These factors make it unique from other recent Adult Swim shows, which also justifies its top five placement in this list.
4. Tokyo Revengers Mixes Time Travel and Gang Fights

Anime that makes every decision seem so crucial doesn’t come easily; Tokyo Revengers does just that. Takemichi Hanagaki isn’t the strongest fighter in the Tokyo Manji Gang, yet his determination to save Hinata and change the future keeps the story moving. The Bloody Halloween Arc is where the series truly finds its identity, while the Christmas Showdown Arc proves that even changing the past comes with painful consequences.
We have placed it in the 4th position because the emotional stakes remain high throughout the anime. Every time Takemichi believes he has fixed the timeline, another tragedy appears, giving the series a level of tension that separates it from most anime built around time travel.
3. FLCL Is a Coming-of-Age Story Like No Other

Trying to describe FLCL has never been easy, and this is precisely what makes it fun. In Episode 1, Haruko Haruhara crashes into Naota’s ordinary life, setting off six episodes filled with giant robots, guitars, absurd comedy, and nonstop visual creativity. Despite all the madness, there is a surprisingly sincere story in it about growing up and accepting change.
This is what makes FLCL timeless. There can be plenty of anime louder and more action-oriented, but none captures the chaos of teenage years quite like this. This is what made it influential enough not only in anime, but in Western animation as well.
2. Ghost in the Shell: SAC Changed Sci-Fi Anime Forever

There have been some amazing cyberpunk anime out there, but none quite like Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. The Laughing Man incident in the first season is one of the best-written mysteries that the genre has ever seen, and the 2nd GIG continues to expand the universe through political tensions, refugee situations, and ethical questions about justice. With each mystery, Major Motoko Kusanagi and Section 9 get to examine what being human in the digital age is all about.
Very few Adult Swim anime have aged this gracefully. The action is still impressive, but it is the writing that keeps bringing viewers back. Even today, the series feels ahead of its time, making second place feel almost impossible to argue against.
1. Dandadan Mixes Ghosts, Aliens, and Crazy Fun
Putting Dandadan anywhere other than No. 1 never felt quite right. The series somehow mixes supernatural horror, alien invasions, romance, comedy, and spectacular action without losing sight of its characters. The opening episodes immediately hook viewers with Turbo Granny and the Serpo Aliens, but the heartbreaking Acrobatic Silky Arc proves the story has far more emotional depth than its wild premise suggests.
Science SARU‘s breathtaking animation turns every fight into a visual event, yet the biggest reason Dandadan sits at the top is how unpredictable it remains. One episode can make you laugh out loud, while the next delivers genuine heartbreak. Very few modern anime balance so many different ideas this naturally, and that’s what makes it Adult Swim’s greatest anime to date.
